Deer season is over for me now, bummer. My wife gave me permission to get three deer ($ for the processing is the limiting factor) this year and I got them all in 11 days during the Nebraska firearm season.
Deer 1) Doe, shot at 33 yards, complete penetration and she only went about 10 feet from where she stood.
Deer 2) Doe, shot at 77 yards, complete penetration, she ran about 30 yards.
Deer 3) Buck, shot at 36 yards, because it was near the end of legal shooting light I thought he was quartering away but he was actually quartering towards me, bullet struck perfectly behind the shoulder and exited behind the diaphragm. Not quite gut shot, but not my best work. He ran a bit father, about 60 yards.
All were single shot kills. My rifle was a Marlin 1895 in 45-70, shooting a 416 grain paper-patched bullet at 1665 fps.
I hope everyone else is having a good season as well,
Jeremy
