Remington 7600 Carbine
« on: December 01, 2011, 01:34:47 PM »
I was wondering if any of you out there had the Remington 7600 Carbine with the 18.5 inch barrel. I was curious as to what results you are getting from them and if anyone has used a chronograph to see how much velocity is lost. I have always wanted one as it would seem the perfect fast action brush gun.

I have an old 760 carbine in 30-06, and it gives me exactly the same velocities with IMR 4320 and 180 grain bullets that my 742 auto with a 22 inch barrel did.

I've recently bought a bolt in 30-06, and plan to graph some of my hunting loads in it to see if that makes a difference.
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

I had one in 30/06... I love the gun, disliked the blast when shooting it... Now I have a M14 with a short barrel in 35 Rem. it dont ring my "bell" like the 06 did...

Vel loss is gonna vari depending on caliber. Some don't loose much while others loose allot... What caliber are you asking about?.

I was thinking the 30-06 good all around and it seems to be the only one they list for it nowadays. I would imagine with a short barrel there would be a noticeable amount of muzzle blast. It just seems like it would make a fast handling brush buster.

The Carbine has all the zip you need for woods hunting . On one of the Benoit brothers videos , Shane shoots a buck in a beaver swale up in Ontario at 350 Yds. with his 30-06 Carbine . It's cool as hell , you can see the wake from the bullet all the way to the deer .

I've heard about those guys and how they hunt the brush and love those carbines. It is just knowing your weapon. Nothing wrong with a good old 30-06. Where can you find that video by chance?

i shoot 165 nosler bt,s with 57grs imr 4350, it does 2710 fps out of my 7600 3006  with 18-1/2 barreled carbine. out of my rem 700 3006 with 22 barreled it does 2820. the 700 is more accuret, but in the woods the 7600 is the cats meow for me. eastbank.

the rifle is my 7600 carbine in 3006, load was 57grs imr 4350 with 165gr nosler BT. since i took that buck,i took the verix11 2x7 leupold off and mounted a 1.5x5 verix111 leupold and added remington model 6 wood with the higher comb for useing a scope. here is a doe i took this week with the same rifle.

My 30.06 Remmy 760 carbine is very deadly on hogs.   the 180 Fusion pill under the ear drops them immediately.   these two were at 68 yards.  Big bo weighed 258 lbs   Little Boy weighed about 140.   Love my 760

Looks like it does the trick just fine. I've been keeping my eyes open. My dad found a really clean Remington 760 in 30-06 but its the 22" barrel and I was hoping to find a carbine. I already have a Remington 700 ADL in 30-06.

I don't know how much velocity loss there is between 7600's with 22" and 18.5" barrels.  I do know my new this year 7600 Carbine 30-06 Spr. with a Leupold VX-II 2-7x33mm Scope is my favorite and main deer, hogs and black bear rifle. . . . .or should I say carbine.  I use it for about 70% of all my big game hunting.  It shoots 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with Fusion 165 gr. factory ammo.  It's zeroed at 100 yards and is down 3 1/2" to 4" at 200 yards which is longer then any of my woods hunting will be.  I'm sure as my back gets better (had surgery this past spring) and I shoot it more it'll do better.  :)

The 7600 Carbines are awesome!  ;D

with my carbine i lose a little more than a 100fps with the load i use, my rem 700 in 3006 with the same loads goes about 100fps faster with a 22 inch barrel. here,s another buck the 7600 carbine racked up. eastbank.

Most any gunsmith can make that 22" barrel into a 18 1/2.  I've done it with a 7452 in 30-06. It has a "kewl" factor in looks.

At this point I've just been keeping my eye open for a Remington 760 or 7600 for a good price regardless if its a carbine and If I want to I can always have the barrel cut down so it should be a lot easier to find one now. Thats a nice buck eastbank. You keep hittin' where your aimin'. Scatterbrain How do you like your Remington 742? All I ever hear about the remington autos whether it be the 740, 742, or 7400 is they have a tendency to jam hence the moniker of Jammomatic I suppose.

Not ONCE in the years(many) I have had the rifle. Even the lowest book loads cycle through this rifle
(30-06). I do use a small base Die. Whether this makes a difference or not I can't confirm.

Everything from 110 gr to 220 gr bullets have gone through the action, however not all shoot well which is no different then any other rifle.

Keeping the chamber clean isn't easy with rifles do not allow you to clean from the breech side. I suspect  that some folks that clean from the muzzle side are pushing crud into the chamber and not making sure it gets cleaned up.
I use a pull thru( not the commercial Snake) for the first several passes to ensure no crud from the barrel ends up in the chamber of even further towards the trigger which I do remove periodically when really getting into the cleaning fervor ;D ;D

I wanted a new 750 Woodmaster Carbine in 308 Win. and 30-06 Spr. really bad.  I'm a semi auto guy.  I love my 11-87's and they're great, but know to many guys that have had major trouble with 742's (I had one and it wouldn't shoot a magazine without jamming), 7400's and 750 Woodsmaster's semi auto rifles and carbines.  I couldn't take a chance and went with the 7600 carbine instead.  I'm glad there are guys who have good luck with Remington semi auto rifles and carbines.

I do realize that most of the time it has to do with people not properly taking care of there firearms. Then again a buddy told me of an old timer with a Remington 742 being the only rifle he ever used. He said he never once cleaned it and yet in all the years that old man hunted with it he never had it let him down and this baffled me. But stranger things have happened I suppose. Glad to hear you have had good luck with yours scatterbrain.

Dan if you Google Benoit Brothers , you can order from their web site . Those boys are starting to get a little long in the tooth , I don't know how much longer they will be running down deer , They are actually doing some stand hunting these days , and that speaks volumes ! I have several 760s , .308 , 30-06 , .300 savage and .358 Win , all with 20" barrels and worked triggers .

Ya I had checked out that but the price on it is no doubt ridiculous compared to just buying one from remington. They have done those rifles proud though.
