Give this Christmas?
« on: December 01, 2011, 06:10:26 PM »

Got this in a email. Have not checked it but sounds about right.

As you open your pockets for the next natural disaster, please keep these facts in mind:

The American Red Cross President and CEO Marsha J. Evans salary for the year was $651,957 plus expenses

The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $375,000 base salary along with numerous expense benefits.

UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,200,000 per year (100k per month) plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE . Less than 5 cents of your donated dollar goes to the cause.

GO "GREEN" INSTEAD AND PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE IT WILL DO SOME GOOD:

The Salvation Army's Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a small salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization. 96 percent of donated dollars go to the cause.

The American Legion National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

The Veterans of Foreign Wars National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their
  Families and youth!

The Disabled American Veterans National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

The Military Order of Purple Hearts National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

The Vietnam Veterans Association National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

Please share this with everyone you can.

We donate what we feel is a good amount of money and other things each year and very little of it goes to any "organization" with the only exception being the truckload or more of stuff we seem to accumulate each year that gets dropped off at the local Goodwill.  My wife once bought a case of 30 White Castle hamburgers and gave them to 3 winos on the street.  I told her with all that alcohol and grease we will be lucky if they don't sue us.   ;D   The point is, we choose to redistribute our own wealth, thank you very much.

I have to have a fix of 6 or 8 of them about every 6 to 9 months.  I know going in what the recovery period will be and plan for it as best I can.   ;)   Can you imagine what 10 of them on a stomach used to cheap hooch would be like?   ???   Still a donation is a donation and only the recipients gained the benefit.

Joeg52, do you have another source besides snopes. They have proven to be less than honest and fabricate a lot of their information. Very biased toward money and liberals. You may even be one. dont know dont care. I dont use snopes.

http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/s/salvation-army-salary.htm spells out the benefits the head of the Salvation Army receives - it's a good bit more than $13k, but still far less than what the other big charities get.  It doesn't address the other charities, good or bad.

To be quite honest. I dont or want, give to any of them with the exception of a dollar or two to salvation army bell ringers. Like most of you I give where it counts in better ways.

My donations go to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. The United States government has seen fit to take care of all the other natural and unnatural disasters on this planet using my tax money. I gave at the door, sorry.
