I am looking into purchasing one but have very little knowledge on them in 44 magnum.  Anyone have one that can offer an opinion.   :-\

.44 Magnum is a good deer calibers if that is what you are asking.

I don't own a Scout, but i have heard really good things about them, I wouldn't be opposed to owning one.

Yep, I do have one. I bought one after deer season ended last year. Couldn't get acceptable accuracy from it and finally sent it in to be repaired. Three weeks later I received a brand new one, a note from CS said that they h determined that my original purchase needed replaced.

I haven't really had a chance to wring out the new one yet. I have shot it some, and it seemed that after 30-40 shot the groups began to tighten up. Some barrels seem to need to be "shot in".

Our muzzleloader season begins tomorrow so it will be a while before I get back to shooting the Scout, but I'll post results when I do.

I had one for about 6 months. I tried several differant loads 240 gr XTP, 265gr hornady, 240 gr Gold Dot, and 300 gr. XTP. The Gold Dot shot the best, but I was getting 3'' groups at 100 yards. The Durasite Ring/Base combo that comes with the CVA seem to loosen after about 10-15 shots, so make sure you Lok-tite them down. The Trigger was nice, much better than I have seen with the Handi-Rifles. The fit and feel of the gun is good,but the accuracy is just O.K. My Remington 870 Super Slug leaves the Scout in the Dust when it comes to accuracy.

Thanks for the input I picked up a Handi Rifle in 357 for a steal the other day and just talked to H&R about a 44 magnum barrel  Lokks like for about $120 can have it retro.  Upon first inspection looks a little rough like it was cut using a hacksaw.  Plan to shoot it this weekend.  Have a good one.

That $96 accessory barrel turns into much much after shipping both ways, fitting fee and tax, closer to $160 and even more if you opt for a Trapper barrel which has sights, $196 IIRC.

Almost worth a couple more dollars to buy the Gun for around $240 ;)

I think you have a very good point and I have a Marlin 1894 built by Ben Forkin.  Know anyone in southern part of Indiana that can ream the H&R to accept .357 Max ?

Indiana Dennt,

Reaming your .357 to Maxi is truly a do-it-youself job. Go the Handi page and you can find all the info needed, and Tim has a reamer that you can rent.

I was undecided for quite a while, but finally rented the reamer and was surprised at how simple the process was to do.
