Cats and CD's
« on: January 14, 2004, 01:12:06 PM »
Jim in Nebraska brought up using CD's as a cat attractor. well i had to try it.  i also have been trying squeakers. I'll be honest with ya neither  one was working the way i wanted them too. until i had a spot that needed a little attraction for a cat. went to put out a CD and had no string to hang it. So i went back to the pickup to look for something to hang it with. all i could come up with was a piece of no. 11 wire. so i made the loop big so the CD would move in the wind. Guess what, that CD squeaks on the wire when the wind blows!!!!!!!! it's been the best thing i've tried!!!!!!! thank you Jim!!!

I just can't bring myself to use something plastic...talk about being stupid ...oh well.  I use bleached rib  bones from cattle.  By attaching a wire to the bone in a big loop and hanging it on a ring from a wire in the tree the bone flicks around in a breeze and if the wire is rusty it sqeaks just as you describe for the CD.

I have been using squeakers for the past few years and if there are cats around they do come.  One note always put a trap at the squeaker and at least one more out a piece at a good funneling point.  Some cats just won't get that close to the squeaker but they come to the area.

I hate to talk down a product ...so I won't!

Now the DSE Squealers have no adjustments, on or off.  They come ready to run on 4 AAs, (the chirppers AAAs). They run for MONTHS at a time on 4 batteries!  If anything happens they fix or replace free!  You do not have to mess with the sets to see if things are working.

I've caught cats at sets with both types of units but I've had nothing but grief with SOME brands and nothing but trouble free use with the DSE units.  Make no mistakes they'll not make cats where there aren't none. And, if one comes and dosen't get caught things can go DEAD!  Some cats won't work close enough to the squealers.  I've went to putting them a ways (foot or two) back or up 3 or 4 feet in trees at my close sets...the lures will do their job.  At sets where the units are tight to the trap I'll always have a cat suitable set(s) out 25 too 50 yds on the approach ways.

By the way, I have two teasre units for sale to anyone I don't really like!
