Cain drops out of the race.
« on: December 03, 2011, 10:34:25 AM »
Herman Cain drops out of presidential race    By Chris Moody
Political Reporter  By Chris Moody | The Ticket – 2 hrs 44 mins ago
  Herman Cain (David Tulis/AP)
Plagued by allegations of sexual harassment and marriage infidelity, businessman Herman Cain announced Saturday that he is officially suspending his campaign for president of the United States.
"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," Cain said at what was supposed to be new campaign headquarters in his hometown of Atlanta. "I am disappointed that it came to this point that we had to make this decision."
But he added, "Before you get discouraged, today I want to describe Plan B. . . . I am not going away. I will continue to be a voice for the people." With that, he unveiled the headquarters of his new website, TheCainSolutions.com.
Standing with his wife Gloria by his side, Cain vowed that he would make an endorsement before the primaries were over and said that he "will not be silenced."
Cain, one of the first Republican candidates to launch his campaign for the White House last spring, spent most of his run as an obscure, low-polling candidate that was a hit at tea party rallies. But as the Republican field took shape, and it became clear that high-profile party hopefuls like Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie would not enter the race, Republicans seemed willing to give any of the candidates a fair shake.
Cain's big break came in Florida in September during a presidential debate that preceded a major straw poll of party insiders in the state. Texas Gov. Rick Perry was the front runner at that time, but after he flubbed the debate and told a crowd of Republicans that they didn't "have a heart" if they disagreed with him on immigration policy, Cain's clearly-articulated conservative message earned him a fresh look and victory at the straw poll.
Over the next few weeks, Cain would rise to the top of national and state public opinion polls. He published a book, This is Herman Cain! My Road to the White House, was placed center-stage at the upcoming debates and his economic policy proposal, the very marketable "999 Plan," became the focus of national discussion.
Of course, with national prominence came heightened scrutiny from his opponents and the media and, for a while, Cain coasted through without most of the new attacks sticking to him. That is, until Politico published a report alleging that several anonymous women had accused him of sexual harassment while he was president of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.
For the most part, Republicans came to his defense. Cain's campaign raised millions of dollars sent to him from supporters who felt he was the victim of unfair and unsubstantiated attacks.
But over the next several weeks, the number of allegations increased. Women began to come forward publicly, with details of the accusations. Slowly, Cain's base of support began to fade, as conservatives still not content with supporting former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney looked for a new candidate to back.
The final death warrant for Cain's hopes for a campaign that stretched into 2012 came when Ginger White, a longtime friend of Cain's, came forward to say that she had sustained a sexual relationship with Cain for several years. She provided cell phone records to prove that they had, in fact, known each other over the years.
Unlike the prior allegations, the response from Cain's lawyer did not issue a denial, but rather a defense that said that the media should not inquire about his "private sexual life."
Cain responded, saying that he was reassessing his campaign.
On Saturday, Cain concluded his announcement that his run was over by reciting a poem:
"Life can be a challenge, life can seem impossible, but it's never easy when there's so much on the line."

hmmm, i was afraid of this. i really liked him and some of his ideas. i know he wasnt perfect but he seemed down to earth and honest. i really dont believe a lot of the allegations against him.it seems to me he was the subject of a witch hunt the likes of which ive never seen.i hope we hear more from him in the future. but if i was him id go somewhere far away from all the nastiness the media has flung at him and forget about helping a country who could not wait to lynch him.

Cain had a good run and I am sorry to see him go out this way. Unfortunently, with the taint on him, he won't be a viable vp choice for anybody either I suspect. I had thought that he would be a vp for somebody, as he brings alot to the table, not the least of which is blunting attacks of racism against the repub candidate.

Too bad he dropped out, too bad he had issues.I have no real problems though. Would it be better this crap was brought to light after an election?

You have to be one hard asp SOB to make it to the top. You have to kick, and bite, and claw, and out think every opponent. If it were easy I'd be the president. I'm all for a good old fashioned mean, smart, conniving, SOB rising to the top. You don't really think Reagan was anybody's fool do you?

I believe his answer should have amounted to " So what. Bite me." I believe that would have garnered better results than hemming and hawing around with excuses acting like you are all ashamed of what you quite obviously are guilty of. There are lots of adults voting, don't BS yourself many of them have failings and can appreciate where the man comes from and what he can do if given the opportunity. I've done plenty of things I don't exactly want published but I am no less capable because of them.

Republicans are afraid to admit to being human Democrats wear their failings like a badge of honor.

Yup good riddance. Like the one now in the white house he had nothing to offer. I believe he might have been the worse choice of them all. Now if we could just lose Romney and Perry as well.

Well I am sure Perry will soon be out but not Romney. He stepped aside for McCain last go so he paid his dues and it is his turn if those in power now have a say in it. The people have to get fed up enough to demand a stop to this all or America as we knew it will be history.

No matter what one thinks of Cain, it still stinks that this kind of crap can be successful in defeating a candidate. Maybe I missed it but I haven't seen any proof of the claims these women made. And they all have seedy pasts and no proof. One just got evicted from the home she was living in, among other things. The latest one had the nastiest past record of being a scumbag of them all. Maybe more info. or proof will come out, but as of now, I have no reason to diss Cain on unproven allegations. Maybe Cain should have gotten some advise from Clarence Thomas? Since this is the same thing they pulled on him.
I too liked Cain and am sorry this stuff got the better of him.

I see Mark Levin would vote for Bachmann or Santorum if elections were today.

Santorum is real weak on the Federal Reserve though. So I can't get behind him.

I think Cain had two things going for him.

First, he wasn't a career politician.  He wasn't another Senator or Governor looking for The Big Office.  He was a business guy.  As a guy who has made payrolls and turned a proffit, he has a lot more to offer than the current President.  I don't understand the comparison that he's no better than Obama who has never had a job other than as an unexceptional academic and a 'community organizer'.  Business is all about solving problems and creating value.  Compared to a career agitator I think he would have been a welcomed change of pace.

Second thing he had going for him was a plan that started with scrapping the current tax code.  I'm not sure how 9-9-9 would really have panned out or if it would or would not have saved me money.  I just know that the current tax system is a worthless albatross around our country's neck and any plan that starts with dropping it is starting in the right place.

While I don't agree with character assassination, I do think that when the gal came forth with a few phone records of LATE NIGHT, EARLY MORNING phone calls, the cat was outta the bag on Cain, and he is running for marital cover, to save his marriage, and well perhaps he should.
Did he most likely have a gal on the side? Sure looks that way. The girlfriend kept records, and to quit now, might save his marriage BEFORE the girlfriend puts them out.
If Cain is lying about his not having a girlfriend, he will lie about other things.
As far as Bachman, I like her SO FAR, but can she get the nomination? It ain't lookin good. But it is lookin same ole, same ole.

...... About half of adult American males have had some infidelity of one degree or another--call the research dept to check that out.. ;) . But in politics it is likely 90+% have......

..TM7

That's likely true.  Think about this.  To even try out for the job of President of the United States of America, you have to be a pretty agressive guy with a huge ego.  You have to be the kind of guy who not only craves power, but think that you and only you are The Man that your country needs.  You have to be a "Type A" personality of the highest caliber to even think of yourself as a Nation's Leader.  The sort of guy who thinks he can do anything and have a huge apetite for self agrandisement.  Having multiple women is an almost stereotypical trait of men driven to power.  The praise of multiple women builds up their egos.  Having a wife and a mistress (or mistresses) is a power trip.

But there is one person running who I believe shouldn't have a girlfriend problem and in fact probably isn't a type A male ego job.  And that person is Michele Bachmann.  I could get used to listening and looking at her on the tube and what a relief it would be after what we've had to put up with for the past nearly three years.

Listening to her was the one thing that I sort of cringed about when Sarah Palin talked.  I loved what she was saying and she certainly is very easy to look at, but her voice sometimes was kind of like fingernails on a blackboard.

1) You can only blame the GOP on digging this stuff up on Cain.
2) If you think Cain wasn't guilty you need to pull your head out.

1) You can only blame the GOP on digging this stuff up on Cain.
2) If you think Cain wasn't guilty you need to pull your head out.
3) Republicans just think they have more morals, they just have more hate.

Hopelessly hanging onto left wing talking points that you learned on TV?
Good luck with that bomb throwing style you got going on there............... ;D

Weird.  A serial adulterer and drunk like St. Teddy was able to retain his seat, and was lauded by the media. Boxer was caught in the act while a Marin Co. supervisor, got the security guard fired, and is praised by the media.

They are all equally as bad , Clinton has his gal, Edwards while his wife was battling cancer, Schwatzeneggar, Giuliani, Vitter, , West, Sanford, Ensign, Spitzer, and on and on ... then you have the perverts , Gardner, Foley, Weiner , Craig etc,,

Rep,  Dems , they are all alike.. no one side holds the moral High ground over the other..

And the only disgusting thing about this latest news (aside from it being a national distraction when Jobs and the economy should be the national conversation is Cain bowing out Most of his support will go to another philanderer  - Newt.

Remember , he is the one who walked out on his first wife when she was in the hospital with uterine cancer. Then his second wife which he asked her to marry when he wasn't even yet fully divorced from Jackie.
Then while married to Marrianne he was messing round with his new wife Calista for 6 years while still married ).

Newts for Newt. he's an  opportunist , charlatan and all around immoral scumbag. If this were the old west he would be hocking cure all elixirs from a wagon.

At least Ron Paul is a man of morals and convictions. you can agree or disagree with his political approaches , but at least he isn't a Romney flip-flopper or
philanderer Newt scumbag who is only out to line his own pockets.

On the hospital story:  http://www.creators.com/conservative/jackie-gingrich-cushman/setting-the-record-straight.html

Might not be quite the way Mother Jones spun it.

Women have always been drawn to men in positions of power.  And men in positions of power have always taken advantage of that.  And, have often used their positions of power to attract women. It is a fact of human nature.

What I object to is the double standard.  It seems to be perfectly acceptable in the main stream media for those on the left to act like cats in the alley.  But conservatives, because they actually profess to standards and morals which they strive to maintain, often without success, are called to account.

So, which is worse?  Those who profess no moral standards, so can't fall from them?  Or those who strive towards standards and fail?

There both equally bad .
To Profess having an extramarital affair even after you pushed for impeachment of another for the exact same -  makes you a scumbag and a Hypocrite.  So much for representing the  party of family values.

Ron Paul is neither a scumbag nor a Hypocrite.
Who would you rather have representing.  One who walks the walk , or one who Just talks the talk. Frankly I'm tired of seeing those who just talk the talk and are in it for themselves to line their own pockets.
