I use plain jane FMJ 115 grain ammo out of mine and it will eat every thing I have put it in so far from 115 grain to 147 grain sub sonic JHP ammo. Silver tips, Golden Sabers, Gold dots, Hydro Shok, and the Win SXT / Black Talons. Oh and a few the the Corbon +p rounds. I sed to load three rounds and then a +P round and then the rest of the magazine. The recoil of the +P is a little more and lets you know you have three rounds left. It was hard to count the 18 rounds some times and I took the tracer round Idea from the miliatry to help.
Pick a defensive load you want, either your favorite, higherst stopping rate, or what your local law enforcement carries. Run a few through each of your mags. Load two in the top and two in the bottom with the rest FMJ and make sure the mag will feed the JHP loads from the start of the mag to the finish.
Using the FMJ rounds in the middle make it cheaper to test.
Run 50 to 75 rounds through the gun as a break in.
I have had my SW9F since 96 and has been a great reliable gun.
