Nice video!  I used to use bwh for dying traps in my younger years.  Did you sew the shirt yourself?  I'm getting interested in making my own hunting clothes based on the longhunter type of clothing.

  Fine job Swampy; fancy editing wasn't needed.  It is obvious to me that you have considerable woods experience and woodsman's skills.
  That leads to a question..  Your son, who just came out of the combat zone..  Assuming you trained him in the same skills, can you see where these skills have helped him in his military career ?
   Reason I ask is my grandson, who has just finished 8 years as a Marine Sgt., has an MOS of armorer and has studied independantly in the gunsmithing, worked on deployment as a "fighting armorer' to coin a term..and was one of 2 designated snipers for his Marine Spec Ops unit.
   Now he has started his new job as a gunsmith, repairing some quite sophisticated weapons, many of which he can't talk about; and developing new weapons, loads combinations.
   I like to think I started the whole ball rolling when I bought him his very first rifle (a Marlin 25N) and started him woodchuck hunting..
    With the skills you taught your son, I'm just guessing that if he were in any type infantry, recon or Spec Ops situation...surely these skills helped him !     Again; nice video....

He did very well in SERE School.  He was the only one that caught anything to eat.  He broke his ankle on the second day when he fell through a hollow log.  He finished the rest of the two weeks including the POW Camp with a broken ankle and no cast.  He can't tell me much about what he's been doing on the ground.  He's currently serving as a Company Commander for a bunch of Forward Air Controlers (PJs).  He was on the last convoy out of Iraq and was controling 20 some aircraft during that 20 some hour trip.  He was first in his class at OTS.  He's an excellent woodsman and we spent many nights in the woods when he was growing up.  After this tour on the ground he will go back to flying F-15E.  He's fully trained as an ALO.  They are among the most highly trained people in the military as they are qualified to use all small arms, go in with SEAL teams, Rangers, Force Recon, etc. and they are fully qualified as Air Trafic Controllers.

It becomes very colorfast over time.  You can rinse in water to remove the excess dye but the item will be lighter in color.

Thanks for making such a useful video. I'll be dyeing a pair of red vintage woolrich wool pants soon and was wondering how long to leave them soaking in the cool water? As you mentioned I don't want to shrink them with hot water.

I've let stuff soak for several days.  Just be sure you move it around in the dye some about once or twice a day.  Then just let it drip dry.  More hulls and less water makes for darker dye.
