It must be nice being President... Obama to jet off to Hawaii for SEVENTEEN DAY Christmas vacation  By Daily Mail Reporter

Last updated at 10:14 PM on 3rd December 2011While most Americans are lucky to get a few weeks of holiday every year, it seems the country’s leader gets a little more freedom in the matter.
President Barack Obama has announced his Christmas vacation to Hawaii – for a staggering 17-day trip.

Obama, who visited the island just two weeks ago for an economic summit, will head to Honolulu on Saturday December 17 until Monday January 2.
Taking it easy: President Obama, pictured playing golf, has announced he will take off more than two weeks to visit Hawaii with his wife and daughters Taking it easy: President Obama, pictured playing golf, has announced he will take off more than two weeks to visit Hawaii with his wife and daughters The president, who was raised in Hawaii until he was six, will be joined by his wife Michelle and their daughters, Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10.

The White House travel office announced the president has no public events scheduled for the trip.

The President's family covers the cost of a private beach front residence in Kailua, Oahu, for their vacation - a ‘Winter White House’ that costs up to $3,500 a day, or $75,000 a month.
But the local and federal taxpayers help pay the bill for travel and security.
Home for Christmas: President Barack Obama, pictured at the White House Tribal Nations Conference on Friday, lived in Honolulu, Hawaii until the age of six Home for Christmas: President Barack Obama, pictured at the White House Tribal Nations Conference on Friday, lived in Honolulu, Hawaii until the age of six Last year the trip cost more than $1 million, according to the Hawaii Reporter.
Obama announced the trip during a campaign fundraiser on Oahu's Leeward Coast during his stay on the island last month.

  THE HEFTY HOLIDAY BILL
Last year the Obama's Christmas trip to Hawaii cost more than $1 million.
He covered the cost of his family's accommodation, but the rest was covered by the taxpayers.

The bill to house Secret Service agents and Navy Seals in beach front accommodation stretched to $16,800.
A further hotel bill of $134,400 covered 24 White House staff staying in the Moana Hotel at a rate of $400 a day.

The estimate, by the Hawaii Reporter, also included $250,000 for local police overtime, $1 million for the president's own round trip flight to Hawaii on Air Force One, and $10,000 for a local ambulance to accompany the presidential motorcade. ‘It is great to be home, great to feel that Aloha spirit,’ he said.
‘And Michelle and the girls will be back shortly for Christmas vacation, as we do every year.  We'll see if Washington gets its business done, so I can get here as well. But that's always a challenge.’

It follows an 11-day stay in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, earlier this year, which is also believed to have cost the U.S. taxpayer millions.

Next week, the president will be saving a few cents by hosting a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Obama will speak with Harper at the White House about economic competitiveness, security and key global issues.

Harper has urged Obama to support an oil pipeline from western Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast.

But the Obama administration said last month it was delaying a decision on the project until it can study new potential routes that would avoid environmentally sensitive areas in the Midwest. The decision is expected to be delayed until 2013.

Good to have him about as far away from Washington as possible. He's not taking a break from leading, it's a break in his reelection campaign.

The dems think they have the election about figured out,. The punch line will be that the mean ol republicans won't tax those millionaires so that they can give all the poor working class a $1,000 dollar gift.

Didn't they basically build another White House communication center in Crawford, Texas, because the true "destroyer" of America spent so much time there?  Where did all those Secret Service, CIA and FBI agents stay in Crawford?  I bet they didn't pitch tents on GW Bush's lawn.

Bush already owned the property at Crawford.  His home there was solar heated and air conditioned.  Thus no rent for rooms or no utility bills.  Don't know about the secret service costs.  However, remember Obama has continued to listen to the Fed Chairman and the banks and has continued to try "stimulus" that Bush started.  Obama, has just made it worse.  Government doesn't make anything, doesn't produce anything, they only create bureaucratic jobs, most are unnecessary.  Private industry will get us out of the recession, but only if the government helps bring business back, don't overtax, don't tax manufacturing industry, lets pipelines and oil and gas wells be installed.  Wind power isn't working, 14,000 windmills have been shut down because they have noone to buy the electricity.  We have to build nuclear power plants where the need is.  We have 200,000,000 vehicles on the road in America, 99.9% uses diesel and gasoline in which we import 60%.  We need to produce our own UNTIL alternatives become cheaper.  Stop sending our money overseas, buy American, produce American.  Stop blaming Bush.  Dems are worse, Reps are bad enough.

H'mm the Interstate road system, built by??

Bring back business from China ?  How about we reduce wages to about $1.00 per hour that would go along way.

I don't mind more Atomic Power, offshore drilling etc.  WHAT I HATE IS EVERYONE COMPLAINING WHEN WE HAVE MASSIVE OIL SPILLS, NUCLEAR "RELEASE" INTO THE AIR, ETC.  I am not shouting just emphasizing.  Really the Gulf spill didn't affect me - I could not care less except we lost a lot of oil and fined (dis-incentivized) BP.  I wonder if they will continue to drill after that fine???

Buy American - DON'T buy any electronics this Christmas ALL MADE IN CHINA (I am not buying any)  Good luck with that.  No new TV's, video games, cameras, computers etc.  sure.

Business will continue to manufacture where it is cheaper (if we had no regulations China would still be cheaper, at least for now).  They will sell to ANYONE who will buy, if not Americans than Arabs or Chinese.

My opinions base on some experience - marketed Chinese made products and saw the COST difference vs. Amaerican made, first hand.

Good Luck to us all.

The $1 million cost to taxpayers for last year was only direct cost. Indirect cost to local military, law enforcement, government and businesses was calculated as double that ... which is also a cost to taxpayer. I lived around the corner from him the past couple holidays, and the smiles were forced.

If the highest praise you can pay him is that he's not as bad as the President you hated, that's not saying much. Seriously, is it your intent to continue this for a 2nd term? At which point will you allow yourself to admit to his shortcomings? Or is that too much to expect?

I forgot how much his date with michele cost us when he flew his entourage to Chicago. Several more $million for a date with his wife. I could easily live the rest of my life in style with the wasted money from just ONE of his many needed vacations. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Shortcomings?  Osama bin Laden is dead.  The wars in Iraq and Afganistan are ending. We did NOT experience total financial meltdown and Great Depression #2.  Shortcomings should be made of taller stuff!
I don't hate the previous president.  However, you obviously hate the sitting president.  From a military officer, that's disturbing.  IMHO, the previous presidnt will go down in history as the greatest president in history--to Big Oil, to the Military Industrial Complex, and to the funeral industry both here and abroad.

Let's not forget that GWB had to contend with a Dumycrat Congress in his last two years.  The Bush administration tried to make some changes in the direction the economy was going, but the Dums would have nothing to do with it.  Bush's biggest mistake was that he was too complacent and went along to get along.

The obamunists can try to blame everyone but themselves for the profligate spending and miserable management of our economy, but only the addled are buying it.  The problem is that we are burdened with a poopulation that is about 50 percent disabled, i.e. mentally deficient.

Junior, if you can't see what is happening over in Europe, all the upheaval in governments, because of all the entitlement programs they try and support, I feel sorry for you. This govt. is spending it's way to financial ruin, and all Obama wants to do is take another xxmillion dollar vacation. Instead of cutting back on entitlments, he's increased them ten fold. Bush certainly wasn't the best by far, Obama has extended what was going on, and increased them. Oil spill in the Gulf, tragedy indeed. But cut out all drilling and pumping. Lets cut our nose off to spite our face. Lets give millions of dollars in the green industry, and they still go belly up. Wonder how much pay-ola went under the table on that one. Fast and Furious gun program. Another one that happened under Obama's watch. Obamacare, lets hope that one can be repealed. Millions of illegals getting health care, but lets tax the elderly, that actually paid money into the program. Junior, your like a 2 day old kitten. Someday, when your eye's open, and see what the real world is all about, it might just scare you. gypsyman

Bastiat, has ideas similar to many - keep Government out of almost everything.  Unfortunately my experience shows me that most people only want this until it affects them.  Ripped off by an investment scheme - too bad you should have known.  Water wells contaminated by fracking - price of getting natural gas, sorry.  Oil spill - too bad.  Foreign manufacturing cheaper - buy up - Ohhh lost your job too bad.

Nice (for some, but not me) but not realistic in my opinion.

Bastiat would never belittle rule of law. He does however point out that government does things that if we did, would violate the rule of law. For instance, if I cannot by force take that which belongs to my neighbor, why then can government, by law, do that which I cannot do. All help to some by government is provided by the taking by force of anothers property. The Law, by Bastiat, was a facinating book.

The objective of government is to grow in power. They can only do this by providing gifts to the voters. This is not sustainable in the long run. As Thatcher said, "sooner or later, they run out of other peoples money". They are not concerned with the long run, only the next election. However, we seem to be at the "later", running out of money.
