My first deer with a handgun
« on: December 05, 2011, 07:47:53 PM »
Went out to the Jefferson National Forest with my good friend Dale on our doe day.  This would be my first day hunting with my T/C Pro-Hunter Encore with a 12" .480 Ruger barrel.  I have been practicing with this pistol for several years, wanting to get proficient with it before hunting with it.

Right at first light this young buck came by and I bleated at him and he stopped broadside at 12 yards.

I handloaded a 325 grain Rainer HP with Unique.

Well done TScott.  Next year you'll have to expand your distance  ;) .  12 yds must have had your heart beating....that is mighty close.  Good Job.

I'm in Salem. I hunt Franklin County nowadays. It's been a while since I hunted in Craig. TubsRun, Potts Mtn or Barbours Creek was where you'd find me when deer season started.

Congrats on your first HG kill.    That's a trophy you'll never forget.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Nice shooting! How did that bullet perform and how fast were you pushing it?

The bullet did great.  He was broadside and went through both lungs and exited.  The first lung was completely mangled the second lung was liquified.  The bullet is not moving that fast, right at 1200 FPS in the 12" barrel.
