SB1 receiver question
« on: December 06, 2011, 12:51:58 PM »
Just picked up an sb1 receiver today and it is more of a powdered finish and also noticed that the fireing pin is much thicker then that of my sb2 receivers. Is this normal as this is my first sb1 receiver. Needed it to fit a slug barrel so as to have the other receiver dedicated for the rifle that wa s on it.

There are several different finishes, but yes the larger pin is std. on most SB1.  There are a few small pin SB1's I believe I've read, but not many.  ;)

Factory SB1 rifles(357 and 44 mags) come with smaller rifle firing pins, ~.063" compared to ~.085" for the shotgun size.

I don't like the powdery finish on the SB1 frames. I put the frames in the sink with hot water and dish liquid (Dawn) and I scrub with 0000 steel wool. That powdery stuff will come right off showing a nice matte blue underneath. I've done 3 of my SB1's this way and they look great afterwards.

Spanks. I might give that a try cause this is ugly. I think it would probably wear off after time anyway so might as well help the process.
