I have a great 310gr Woodleigh Weldcore load out of my 35 Whelen Ackley Improved I want to use on something. Here in Utah, I keep waiting for the rogue Circus elephant with no luck , ha. I have used the Barnes x bullets ( from 250 to 200) on many South African plains game animals, from Zebra to Hartebeest, and really like them. However, I am planning a Russian Boar hunt in the Spring up in Michigan, and want to use this 310 Woodleigh. I will be shooting a 300+ pound boar, and want to break him down with a shoulder/heart/lung shot at less than 120 yards. As a young man in Texas, I have shot many feral hogs behind the ear with a .22 magnum, and I don't "need to", but I want to use my "old friend" Mod 700 Classic. I just want to use an Old School heavy softnose. I don't know anyone around here who uses Woodleighs. I have shot them in .358win to .375 H&H with great accuracy, but never took a game animal with them, always fell back to the Barnes X. I have not clocked this load of 55gr R15, but "assume" it's anywhere from 2200- to 2350fps.
Anyone ever used a similar 300 to 300+ gr Woodleigh in a .350 Rigby Mag, .375 or 9.3x62 on similar sized game? Did they open up OK or act like a solid? Any opinions welcomed. Thanks guys.
