NEF .22/.410 combo question
« on: December 08, 2011, 06:04:40 AM »
Hello,
Iv been looking around to buy a Break action NEF or H&R, i cant seem to find one in my wanted .308 config,  Iv found .223, and .243.  also all the shotgun configs, all for over $200, recently i found a new NEF .22/.410 combo for $130.  My Question is, will this receiver handle the .308 barrel, because i know that the shotgun recievers wont handle the rifle receivers, but i didnt know if the .22 LR was on the rifle or shotgun reciever. Thanks for the help.

No. The factory wont mount rifles on a Versa Pack frame.

Welcome! The 22/410 is a Versa-Pack, see the sticky above, H&R at Gardner wouldn't fit any other barrels to it, Ilion might, no one has asked them that I know of, but some have used other shotgun barrels on the VP frame. Spend some time in the FAQs and Help sticky to answer other questions you may have, tons of info there for newbies.  ;)

Seems like that could only be a Versa-pack.... I am trying to find if I can mount a .357 or .44 mag on mine
      http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,244542.0.html
I suspect that putting a .308 on it, could easily result in pieces..  On the other hand the $130 is an awfully good price if that is a Versa-pack.

The best way to find out what can be used on a frame is call H&R(toll free (866)776-9292) and give them the frame serial number, the VP  frame appears to be a cast iron frame like the SB1 shotgun frame which is not suitable for any high pressure chambering like the the 308 Win which require an SB2 rifle frame.

The H&R classifieds or an ad posted in the H&R WTB forum are good places to start, if you want a new one, Bud's has them in stock for about $260 shipped, that's where I buy most of my new ones now, just ordered another 45-70(number 7  ;D) from them.

I use a 45 Colt barrel on a Versa Pack frame, I bought the barrel here on the classifieds and it locked up perfect on that frame. Like Quick said, don't try a .308 on that frame. Low pressure stuff only.

Not that this helps much but my Vers-Pak .22lr barrel is my favorite H-R.

MSP Ret,

How did you make out?  Did you call?  Let me know, if they have more than one set, and how you set up the transfer to your local Wal-Mart.  Thanks.

Alright guys it was bothering me alot so i drove to wally realy quick to check it out again, i actually found a manager to look at it for me, and he explained that it is not a combo, he said that the description the guy was going off of was just the AVAILABLE calibers they offer, and it is in fact a youth NEF that offers .410, 12, 20, and .22 lr calibers.  it is $127 but you only get one caliber to pick from.  I apologize for passing on incorrect information, i guess i didnt think it would make that much of a difference. And i also did see a rossi there in .223 ha but i forgot to check the price.  Again sorry for the hopes rising.
