IG,,,I believe the unemployment increase in Wisconsin is primaily from termination of state employed persons. Walker's tax cuts and policies were to increase private sector jobs he claimed....but didn't, and never had in history. When you cut taxes to corps and elites they are stimulated to KEEP the money, or keep and take elsewhere.....when you raise taxes on corps and elites they are stimulated to invest and re-invest funds to maintain wealth. The myth and notion that cutting corporate and personal taxes on elites creates jobs is one of the clubs used to flog so-called conservatives for years now....but has never been born out in reality.

..TM7

I would never fuss about anyone's taxes being cut. That means less money for the government to waste.

Jobs are created by capital investment in companies producing the things that consumers want. When the government takes capital out of the market by taxation, there is less capital to invest. This is common sense.

The Clinton example that you often use is not a rational example. While it is true that Clinton raised taxes and the economy improved, but this is the only time in history. The reason Clinton's time was different was for two reasons. First, we were in the middle of a computer revolution, much like the industrial revolution and second you had Greenspan lowering interest rates and increasing the money supply thereby creating another bubble. As with all bubbles, Clinton's bubble popped (dot.com crash).

FDR raised taxes higher than anyone resulting in the '37 crash and which was worse on the people than in '29.

On Demand: the Keynesians say that for some reason (animal spirits is what Keynes called it) demand falls and the economy sinks. But, this is not likely as there is always demand. Everyone always wants more than they have.
The Austrian Business Cycle explains what really happens. It is the process of pumping the economy through the money supply causing mal-investment. Since the money cannot be increased forever because it creates inflation, when it is no longer available, the mal-investment is no longer supported, is exposed, and the economy crashes.

I am always confused when posters of the "conservative" lean, whine at a company moving to China and taking away American jobs... ??? ?

This is "Free Market" economics, produce where it is the cheapest and sell for the highest price possible.  Unfettered supply and demand, free market, is frought with severe swings up and down.  Shortage and surplus, success and failure, boom and bust - with the devil taking the stragglers.  Not always a pretty picture but the one I see most supported here.  I am not a fan of this type of "globalization" and I fear we may find ourselves in a postion where if isolated - we won't be able to support our own needs from within the country.

We can't have it both ways.  I would rather we returned to manufacturing here, even if we can't afford as much stuff.   Just me.

When US businesses are hampered by government regulations, it is not free market. We have not had free markets for a long time. It is Fascism. The interference  lessens the benefits of the division of labor lowering the nations living standards.

So where does all of this leave us?  We are now well into Obamunism and hopeless change.  How's that working for ya.  Apparently the goal is to endlessly tax everyone and everything that works until there is no incentive to work.  And at the same time give out favors to the non-working to buy votes.  How long does anyone think this can be sustained?

I don't know how it is where the rest of you live, but in my neck of the woods, most governments (city, county and state) have been forced into making cuts.  It's time the federal government does the same.  The only way that is going to happen is if the tax and spenders are thrown out.

Along with the "class envy" taxes and regulations, the liberal/socialists also cripple our manufacturers with ridiculous "greenie" regulations.  Some regs with reference to the environment are worthwhile, but most are simply greenie attacks on free enterprise.
Most greenies are "watermelons" ..green on the outside, but RED on the inside.  They are closet Marxists, hiding under a green skin.  ...And some of them are high in government.

Our producers must obey thousands of regulations which the Chinese need not bother with.  Thus, our manufacturers are expected to compete while carrying a burdensome restrictive web of regulations. Not a "free market" but a "fettered market"...

Everything (mostly) you say about he lack of "regulations" and Government support in China is true.  However the main reason companies move to China is labor and material COST.  If you think it is hard to live on minimum wage in this country, you (a worker) could not survive HERE on the labor and material costs in China.
I am not sure the answer, but I believe if ALL regulations were lifted ( and you would not want to live in the world of pollution  the Chinese think is acceptable) it would not make a significant difference.  I watched as almost the entire Electronics industry followed the following model:  first sell of all manufacturing production to a third party "contract manufacturer", only concentrate on design, sales and marketing, eventually allow the "contractor" to finalize design and produce the product where it is cheapest (Asia).  These include the titans of US industry Xerox, Kodak, IBM, HP, Apple, Lucent (formerly Western Electric the hardware side of Ma Bell) etc.etc.  All those "High Tech" jobs have gone to China.  I speak from experience, having worked for one of the largest Chinese companies and traveled to mainland China.   Again, I am not sure what the answer is; but the lack of high paying jobs is killing us.

As a taxpayer in WI here's my take. 1st off WI is in the top 5 or so as a high tax state, we already pay enough. The reforms pushed through under Walker are still only half what the average private sector workers pays for health & retirement costs.

The left likes to try to worry Walker supporters. Yes they will get the signatures, Hitler & Mickey Mouse included,  but they have NO viable candidate to beat Walker in a recall. Many of the citizens of WI like what he's doing. Now here comes our annual property tax bill in the mail. Look back to the Prosser race, they threw EVERYTHING they had in there & still lost.

Now we have the mine issue in N WI. That could lead to a number of good paying, longer term jobs. The left comes out against it. I'll be out in support of Walker during any recall.

It is difficult to push austerity in a socialist country! Greece or WI.

The recall people have collected 507,000 of the 540,000 needed signitures needed. They did this in 30 days and have another 30 days to collect the rest. It does not look good for our govener.

The recall people should pay the cost of this recall since the wanted it they can pay for it. Who are they running against Walker? So far they don't have one.
Do you speak German? Well I don't speak Spanish so maybe you'd better learn English.

Perhaps we need tariffs which equal their "cost savings" due to lower, less pollution protection and currency manipulation..

Not likely to happen, I would not be surprised in the least, had the Chinese slipped some cash to certain politicians..

If you look at all of the liberal, democratic controlled, Midwestern states....Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, all of them are going broke. The reason is mostly unions and overpriced government. When I left Illinois in 1991 the property taxes on the house I sold for $201,500.00 at the time were just under $4,000.00 a year. The current value of that same exact home today is just slightly over $300,000.00. In 2008 the property taxes were $9,485.00. The yearly property taxes on my current home in Arizona have just been reduced to $985.00 a year.

This insane taxation and financial stupidity cannot, and will not continue regardless of how many "recall elections" they have, or how much they riot, scream, and stomp their feet. Broke is broke no matter how you cut the cake. I don't care how much of an argument you want to make over how much you "need" something. If you do not have the money to buy it, you can't. Period. These people have been taxed into oblivion. The well has run dry. The people of Wisconsin elected Walker to clean up this financial overspending nightmare. Now, the liberal union lovers are screaming, and trying to do everything to stop him because they all want their free stuff. It's not going to happen. It all goes back to broke is broke. It doesn't matter how much they want it, need it, or deserve it. When there is no money to have it, you're not going to. It is just that simple. This will be self correcting at some point regardless of what Walker, or anyone else does or doesn't do. All that remains is how bloody it will get when it ultimately happens. That will of course be determined by how foolish the liberals are going to act. They have yet to disappoint in that department. One only has to look at the "occupy" crowd for proof of that.

  Bill;

You are so correct !  The liberal idiots of the northeast are destroying families..by breaking them up.  I cannot tell you how many families here in the "People's Republik of New York"..under the liberal bosses have been broken up by the heavy burden placed upon the working people.
as a senior citizen, I see the quality, working families being broken up, as the younger, working generations move on to where they can keep more of their wages, rather than to hand them to those who refuse to work.
Those who never plan on working at all won't move..they can get their pot & crack as well here... as anywhere.  Soon, those northern, liberal states will have primarily 3 types of people; the old, govt employees and those who sponge off what few taxpayers still remain.... a regular Charlie Schumer paradise !  ;)   :D   ;D   ;D   :o

I'm just glad I live far from any city....when finally, the SHTF...
