What fleshing knife do you prefer. I ried my buddys and my knife on the last beaver and it didn't work out well. It was just too dull. What about a necker?

Thanks,

Zach, necker is what I prefer. They are costly ,but pay for themselves.
This last year I sold more neckers than the cheap ones, which indicates to me that more guys are spending more time putting up their fur.
A good job of putting up fur, will put more coins in your pocket.

Right now I am using a Zeph two handled knife.  I also have a MB knife also that I like.  I am using the Zeph because it is lighter and sometimes I will do 20 or 30 beaver a day and the lighter knife helps to ease fatigue for me.   I have never tried the necker but they must be good I know more than a few guys that like it.

Like Tom says buy a good one.  Dont be afraid to spend 50 or 60 bucks.  And average trapper will never wear one out so it will be a lifetime investment.  My Zeph is well over the 1000 mark and it looks like new yet.

Fleshing Knife

I bought a Necker and the first thing I had to do was sharpen it.  Alot of guys have told me that the Necker does not come as sharp as it used to.  Anyway, I thought it worked pretty good but I just could not be consistent with it.  I am sure it was me and not the knife.  On another forum this topic came up and I got to researching how many different fleshing knives are out there, and there are MANY.  I got  into an e-mail exchange with Rally Hess about this topic and he told me about the Zepf.  I bought one, and for me, it works alot better than the Necker.  It is really sharp, light and not as big as the standard Necker.  The first thing I used it on was a beaver and I was sold.  The knife has to fit the person, and for me the Zepf is a perfect fit.
