oops large rifle primers in 45 lc

loaded about 200 rounds of long colt 6.0 grains of titegroup behind 160 lead bullet when counting primer boxes, afterwords found 1 box of  winchester LP primers and 1 box of winchester LR any risk in shooting them, primers seated flush, most brass is RP with some starline new or OF

Ouch!  If it were me I tear them down and fire all the primers.  Then I'd start over.  as a guess the large rifle primers would seem to be quite a bit hotter in order to ignite the larger charge.  In any case, why risk getting hurt or killed?

I would not be afraid to shoot them at all.  That is a piddling load and pressures wouldn't be enough to be concerned about.  even in a colt or a colt clone.
Hodgdons lists 7.0 grains with a 160 gr bullet at 9100 CUP's  Sammi specs lists 15500 CUP's as average max for standard loads for a 45 Colt.
Being careful is great but one has to be resonable.

As long as the load was conservative to begin with, I wouldn't have a concern about shooting them.  The primer does little other than to light the fire.  It's kind of like if you have a big pile of brush to burn and ask if you'll have a bigger fire if you light it with a match as opposed to lighting it with a road flare.

Made that very mistake before...I shot the first 6 rounds with my revolver roped to a post and I pulled a string that was tied to the trigger. The load was a mild Cowboy Action Load, so I wasn't toooo worried...but still I didn't want to be holding the gun should something go way wrong.  :o 
 
The rounds fired off just fine, so I finished off the rest of the loads as normal and had no problems...Now I store all my rifle and pistol primers in separate containers, and I use a separate press for pistol reloading.

Years ago, pre web, I reloaded some .44 Specials with Large Rifle primers. I made sure they were seated flush and I couldn't tell any difference when shot. I tried LR primers on purpose, just 'cause I wanted to see what would happen with accuracy (I was using Unique).
 
FWIW; When I reload I place all the components I will be using on my bench, brass, primers, powder, bullets (only those components I'm gonna use for a particular load). I also write the load data on a sticky note and stick it on my powder measure. This way I can double check all components as I use them (size and amounts). When batch loading I'll sometimes just size/prime a bunch of brass and only get out the primers I'll be using, and leave them on the bench in full view. With my anal precautions I haven't had an OOPS! in nearly 25 years...

OOPS and CRS have a lot in common.  Follow mdi's advice and you will continue to enjoy the world of reloading.

I load large rifle primers in the 45 colt quite often , most especialy for +p type loads in my Winchester trapper, and it's heavy hammer fall . My old Blackhawk handles those primers quite well also.
As long as the primer pockets are deep enough there should be no problem.

Sierra manual just says to back off your load when using a hotter primer. I would be more concerned with the hardness of the primer, and a pistol not having as much ''hit'', as a rifle firing pin. But, it looks like it worked out. gypsyman

The loads will probably be OK but just to let you in on something, you might think about this:

Just two weeks ago, I witnessed a gun blow up from a shooter sitting 15 ft away from me that was using Titegroup.  The shooter mistakenly loaded incorrectly, just as you have done.  His mistake wasn't with primers but a charge error.  Mistakes can only be taken back BEFORE you pull the trigger and it's hard to say "I'm sorry" when someone has lost an eye or is dead.  Call me a little "gun shy" but after having a washer stuck in the side of my head and that things could have been worse, I'd break the loads down and load them correctly.  Either that or you make sure you go shoot those rounds off alone and away from other people.   >:(

Believe me, for a moment I had fleeting thoughts of showing that shooter the business end of the revolver I had in my hand.  If it wasn't a friend, I'm sure the thoughts wouldn't have been so fleeting.

Shoot 'em, you will have no pressure problem and IF the primers are seated at least flush there will be no cylinder rotation problem.  Large frame single action revolvers usually have more than sufficent hammer impact to set rifle caps off.

I've been working up all my pistol loads with lr primers, because I have a lot of them, and because I use the same loads in rifles as well.  I don't shoot 45lc, but I do load 44 mag. and 357 mag.  I personally would shoot them.

Snow today and we're off for Christmas break...
 
I'm going to reload about 200 rounds of .45 Colt today. Sit by the window and enjoy the snow falling outside...nice way to spend the day.  8)

I've seen some writers recommend LR primers for cartridges they shoot in both rifle and pistol because they shoot a little straighter in the rifle.
