Leaving for the Middle-East and then D.C.
« on: January 15, 2004, 12:31:52 PM »
Just a short good-bye for now guys :D .  I leave in one week for the Middle-East on tour #3.  Kinda like going home to a really disfunctional family  .  I'll be back in late June and then going to my next assignment at the Pentagon.

I've really enjoyed my short Alaskan tour.  Many of you guys (Bearhuntr, DaveintheBush, and others) have been very helpful and generous with your time.  You've certainly helped make Alaska everything I dreamed it might be when I received the assignment here.  Thanks.  I'll stay in touch and see if I can send a few pics from the sandbox.

If any of you ever get to Stafford, VA from Jul '05 to Jun '07 look me up.

Matt,
You are too kind.
I for one would enjoy any pictures you send. If late June shows you an opportunity, come down to Soldotna for a day of floatfishing with the flyrod. I know the drift boat will be available...I'll already have my first bear by then! :)
best,
bhtr

Take care and be safe!

Matt,
You be sure to drop me a line when you land in Kuwait.  If all goes well on our convey out of Iraq I should be in Doha or the area by the second week of Feb.  I'll be looking for a mailing address to your new playground.

Bearhuntr -- See that's what I mean; generous and eager to show off Alaska.  Thanks again.  Gonna be hard to better the black bear you shot last year...but good luck!!!

Bear -- Sent you a PM.  Hope to link up with you in theater.  I'll have a couple cans of blacktail meat with me.

Good luck over in the sand.  I retired in 89 then got recalled for Desert Storm.  Then came back to find wife had been reassigned to the Pentagon, while I was gone.  So I got to spend a lot of time in the district.  While you are there I know you will see the Smithsonion, but also see the NRA museum just outside the beltway.  Also Andrews AFB, where Air Force One flies out of, Has a good skeet range.  That was the only way I maintained my sanity, I shot skeet every weekend.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
