Killed 4 squirres with pardner yesterday.
« on: December 11, 2011, 02:14:14 PM »
Yesterday morning I took the dog out squirrel hunting.  He wasn't doing so good but finally got around to treeing.  When I got ready to shoot squirrels started scattering.  I shot and dropped the first.  Reloaded dropped the second.  Hit the third but he got away.  I fired 4 shots in about 20 seconds.  We went back that afternoon and got 2 more.  Both of these were treed and holding still.

I swapped out the original stock with a Choate synthetic with a sling.  I now have 2 cuts on my finger from the front swivel.  I think I'm going back to the wood stock and try to mount the swivel stud in the end of the forend under the barrel.  Then I'm going to cut the original stock and fit a recoil pad.

I was shooting a 12 ga with low brass 6's.  I'm thinking about getting a 20.

I've shot alot of 'em with my 20ga. and 7 1/2 shot. It'll knock 'em out of a tree pretty good without tearing 'em up.

I like the Uncle Mike's barrel band swivel mount on mine - it gets the swivel out ahead of the forearm and away from your hand.

+1 to that. ;)
I've got one on my 12ga. Pardner and it really saves the fingers.

That looks like a good Idea.  I will probably go back to my wood stock.  I'll have to fit a recoil pad and install the rear swivel.  I wish they came factory with a recoil pad.  Those plastic butt plates hurt.

I use my 16 gauge Topper with low brass #6 or my own reloads which are #8 over IMR PB on tree rats, lots of fun!

I don't care for 8's too much.  It is too much shot to pick out.  Although most of the 8's are right under the skin.  The 6's go deep.

I agree, I should have specified that I use #6 for greys, I only use #8 for reds which are too small to cook anyway.

That's a lot of straight stocks on your pic there Doublebass.  Did you cut them down yourself?  I cut my Partner stock to straight English style and love it.

They are all factory straight grip except for my 16 gauge Topper 88. That stock was originally a pistol grip but Andy (MSPret) cut it down to a straight grip for me. Straight grips are by far my favorite, to the point where I really don't want to use anything else.
