Extractor for Valmet 412 in 30-06/30-06
« on: December 12, 2011, 06:05:24 PM »
Hi

I purchased a childhood dream gun which was a Valmet 412 in 30-06/30-06 this past spring up here in Saskatchewan, Canada.  Unfortunately, somebody either fired a high pressure load or had a round stick in the gun.  As a result, the extractor for the bottom barrel is pushed in (towards the chamber) slightly.

The gun still fires and raises the shells nicely, but I would really like to get a new extractor for it.

Any suggestions where I can get a replacement?

Also someone told me that extractors for a 512 or 412S will not work, but then I heard from another person that they will.  Who is correct?

I am going to be on holidays in New Braunsfel, Texas this coming February and would love to pick up a replacement part.

Side note, if anyone knows of a set of 30/06/12 gauge or 243/12 gauge barrels for the 412, please let me know.  I would love to get a set for coyotes at close and/or far ranges.

Thanks for the help.

You don't need a new extractor...  Just "carefully" pry/pull the extractor straight out of the bbls., and with a vice and pliars "carefully" bend it back out to where it was.

Hi DM - I am just a little scared about trying to straighten out the steel and still have it retain its integrity.

I am a little leery that someone may have done this before, but I definitely give it a try.

Hey Tim

DM is right the best way to fix this is to straighten it out by very carefully bending it.  The 512 extractor should fit but in my mind there is a difference in steel used by the Finns vs Italians.

Let us know if it works.

What little it's bent, you won't live long enough to hurt it, even if you bend it several times.

I've straightened them many times, from guys shooting heavy handloads in their 412's...
