Name That Gunfighter 22
« on: January 15, 2004, 04:19:02 PM »
“His first big trouble came in ’77.  He was in partnership with another buffalo hunter named Glenn and was camping with a crew of roustabouts and skinners on McKenzie Lake, where the town of Benjamin now stands.  When they had been in camp for some time and nerves were as taut as a trace chain, ___?___quarreled with one of the hunters named Joe Briscoe and a fight ensued.  Briscoe came at ___?___ with an axe.

“___?___ was not anxious to fight.  He ran around the tent trying to get away, Briscoe following with blood in his eye.  As he ran, ___?___ saw the stock of his old buffalo gun showing under the canvas.  He grabbed it and faced about.

“’Briscoe, you stop where you are, or I’ll kill you!’

Briscoe kept coming, and ___?___ blew him into the outdoor fireplace.”

Hamp,  Would this one be Pat Garrett?

Dagnabbit, the Lady is smooth AND fast..  :cb2:

Now I read that it was 76, not 77.. but what's a year or two, amongst friends.

Hext, you've got it all wrong.  He was only thinking about it in '76.  Didn't decide to reduce his labor force until '77.

Hamp..

We may try and set up a couple of our popup tents, but.. I expect we'll bet a bit wet in the AM.. We'll probably hold off shooting a bit.. hope we get a clear window.  More time to visit, ya know.

Hope to see you there.

Hamp,  This one was easy.  I have been reading alot about Pat Garrett trying to see if there is a chance that I am related to him like one of my Garrett cousins claim we are.  So far I haven't found anything other that the fact he was born in Chambers County, Alabama and his dad's name was John.
My great-great-grandparents were John Garrett and Jane(Janie)White. I know very little about them so I have been reading anything that I can find on the Garrett line.
