I missed the boat when S&W first came out with this.  I had a 686 and purchased a barrel and cylinder back when Brownells had them and had it put together.

I was lucky enough to find a S&W 696 in a gun shop while on vacation  many years ago. Just before these limited run 696 prices went through the roof ( even if you could find one ). Mine came with a patridge front sight ( which is my personal favorite ). The 44 spl has always been my favorite. This gun never leaves my side.
Hope yours shoots as good as mine.

I had a nice 696 that i foolishly let my buddy talk me out of. It was light compact and one of the better shooting revolvers ive owned. Id love to replace it but when you see one for sale the owners usually pretty proud of it.
