My father
« on: December 13, 2011, 06:21:03 PM »
I know this is the Handi forum and I don't post too often, but it is where I spend most of my time on Graybeard Outdoors.  My father passed away last week and we laid him to rest today.  He was a 22 year US Army veteran, most of that time as an MP.  By the way the Honor Guard form Ft. Campbell did a great job.  Here is a picture from his time in Vietnam (Aug 1965-Aug 1966).

Sorry for your loss. I hope you can spend some good time with other family members this Holiday and keep it from always being a downer time of year. It is always sad to lose someone, but seems harder near the holidays. Thanks for sharing with the GBO family, take care,  thejanitor

I wish to express my condolences to you and your family.
I also want to express my thanks to you and your family for so unselfishly allowing your dad to serve our great country.  I know what your are going through at this time, and can only tell you that it will get better.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

I'm sorry for your loss. My dad has been gone a few years now so I can relate. It still sucks, but you'll feel better with time.
I appreciate his service, thank you for sharing.

Guys,

Thanks to all of you for the kind words.  I miss my father greatly.  But I also know he did his job, he raised 4 kids who grew up to honorable adulthood.  We spent much of our childhood living on Army bases both stateside and overseas.  It was rough at times with all the moving, but as I look back, what an experience we had.

In going through his things we found some old pictures, the one I attached was my favorite.  Its humbling to know that he was considerably younger in that photo than I am now.  I also love the Grease Gun he is holding and the taped together magazines.  Things occasionally got a little hot and testy there.

You are welcome.

My father served 1967-1969 in Nam, yes things got a bit hot and testy.  My favorite pic of my dad during that time is him with a couple other guys around a fire grilling a snake they had caught and skinned.

May the Lord give you peace, comfort and healing during this sad time for you and your family.

That photo of your father brings back memories of when I was in Vietnam, 67-68-69 and that scene could have easily been in the actual area I served in, as the backround looks all too familiar.

That war left a lot of scars on a lot of us!

God Bless You, and Your Family!
