Getting the lead out of a mold
« on: December 14, 2011, 02:46:15 AM »
Hi guys.  Had a stupid day :(   I got lead in the two holes that align the mold when closing it.  How do I get the lead out?

Thanks for the help.

I'm assuming the hole goes all the way through the mould. Try pushing it out with a properly sized punch. If it's a blind hole. you may need to try threading a screw into the lead & pulling it back out the way it went in.

Heat it up it is ;)   I ran some hot lead over it but probably did not get it hot enough last time.  I really appreciate the help!

Hello, Bulletstuffer.  One thing I do before casting is to use Rapine (or other brand) Mould prep on top, bottom, all over sprue cutter, pins & their locating holes.  This not only provides some lubrication, it also helps prevent lead sticking.  A No.2 pencil is also used to scribble all over bottom of plate..& top of blocks, for same reason.  you could twirl it around in pin holes also.  Best of luck!

My first reaction was "melt it out".
Glad to see others agree.
