It's for men only because if you open a man's refrigerator, there will be at least 10 different kinds of condiments. Guys love their condiments. Here's a good one that I have become fond of, and it's relatively cheap and easy to make. It's a lot like the red chili paste you find at Thai restaurants, but isn't as hot (unless you leave the seeds in)
Having a food processor is key to this.
10 red jalapenos (if you can find them. They are common around here. Green ones will work, but the results won't be as pretty. Green ones will also be cheaper. Any moderately hot pepper will work.)
2 cloves of chopped garlic.
Salt to taste
Optionally vinegar and sugar to taste
1) Remove the seeds from the peppers.
2) Put the peppers and garlic and about 1/3 teaspoon of salt into a food processor and puree it.
3) If you want to make it more savory, add a little vinegar and sugar, a little at a time until you get the flavor you want.
4) Refrigerate it and eat in stews, casseroles, on top of most anything cooked. It works in salads too.
I mention this because it has a broad appeal, a lot like ketchup.
Do it this way first, then if you want it hotter, leave the seeds in.
It will keep for quite a while in the fridge, but I've never had it last more than a week.
The commercial chili garlic pastes all have chlorine compounds and similar stuff.
