45 Colt JSP Bullet ?

Have looked around online but have had no luck so far. Do any of the bullet manufacturers make a jacketed soft point bullet for the 45 Colt in a 250-260 grain size ? If my rifle liked lead bullets I would go with one of them but so far it just shoots the best with jacketed. Would like some JSP's for hog hunting. More penetration and less expansion than the  250 gr XTP's I shoot in it. Thanks.

I use the 300gr XTP MAGS in my 45colt trapper at close to 1600fps.  The XTP MAGS are a much tougher bullet than the regular XTPs, they are designed for 454 velocity.  The 300gr XTP MAG will go length-wise through deer so I imagine it will do well on hogs too.  Hornady makes a 240gr XTP MAG in .452 also but I always used the bigger one due to the accuracy and performance it has given me over the last few years.  If you want a tough and accurate bullet don't forget the XTP MAGS.

I don't know of any in the sizes that you mention but I highly recommend the Sierra 300 grain JSP. It shot very well out of my 20" Handi rifle and my 10" Contender over IMR-4227. I have yet to see a JSP in the 250 range so you may have to go bigger anyway.

I'm surprised to read your rifle doesn't like lead bllets. What kind of probelms do you have, accuracy or leading? Is it a MicroGroove?

I agree with the guys, but will add the Speer 300G plated softpoint bullet.
I have shot end to end thru whitetails more then once with the Speer and the XTP 300G. They will serve you well on porkers as well. I haven't shot many pigs with my 45 Colts. But I have shot them with it and it was with one of these 300G bullets. One of the last ones was head on in the skull with in and out penetration from my 7.5" Bisley...

Give the 300's a try. BTW I have nto used it, but the XTP is also avalible in a 240 MAG XTP. If you want more vel and still a good stout bullet maybe try it. IMHO the 300's are where its at in the 45 Long Colt!

The barrel is a 20 inch stainless that I had MGM make for my Encore. I tried three different lead bullets ( 250 gr RNFP, 255 gr Keith style SWC and a 265 gr WFNGC ) over different loadings and the accuracy was terrible. Also tried the 240 gr XTP mags and accuracy was ok but not as good as the 250 gr XTP's. I've shot the 300 gr XTP mags before in a Casull and the accuracy was great. Since I can't get all these lead bullets I have here to work in the rifle my sixguns will have to eat them and I'll have to own another box of 300 gr XTP mags.
