Walmart Remingtons?
« on: December 15, 2011, 09:43:01 AM »
I visited my local Walmart the other day and saw an entry level 700 in 7MM.    Its price was significantly lower than similar rifles I have seen elsewhere.  Question, are Walmart Remingtons the same as Remingtons you can buy elsewhere for more, or does Remington cheapen its Walmart rifles?

Yup a Remington is a Remington. An SPS is an SPS whether a gun dealer sells it or Wally world does. All I've seen there are the same models I see in gun shops but yeah the prices do seem lower at Wal-Mart.

This question has been ask before. GB is right. A Remington is a Remington no matter where you buy it. My opinion is the gun shops started this story to make people think if they bought a gun from Wally World they would get junk. :-\

only thing the walmart guns arent sps models. There an adl model with a blind mag and a plastic trigger guard. If you can live with that there a heck of a deal.

Walmart sells SPSs too.  In fact they can get anything Remington makes.  I prefer the ADL myself.

My thought is to buy one, replace the stock with a BDL stock from Midway (a McMillian maybe) and then buying the Brownells kit for converting an ADL to a BDL.  On the other hand I might just buy a CDL in Walnut.  Buying the CDL might be cheaper, but I would have more fun tinkering.

If I wanted to go cheap, MidwayUSA sells the Remington BDL stock for about $84 plus shipping.

Can I do something like that? I am also looking at the cheap Remi 700 at Wally-World for $397. Blind mag. So I wanna go and buy a Boyds Thumbhole for a 700 BDL and go to Cabelas and get this convert kit. Will this work???? Thats would be awesome!!!!! http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Firearm-Components/Magazines-Clips%7C/pc/104792580/c/104717880/sc/104442480/Kwik-Klip-Remington-Model-700-Clip-Conversion-Kit/741478.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fshooting-firearm-components-magazines-clips%2F_%2FN-1100238%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104442480%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104792580%253Bcat104717880%26recordsPerPage%3D108&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104792580%3Bcat104717880%3Bcat104442480

This is my Walmart 700ADL in .30-06.  Stock from ebay and conversion parts from Brownell's.  It's highly accurate.

Can anyboby tell me if it will work?????

It will work, but I'd avoid the Kwik-Klip.

Swampman is right as usual when it comes to Remington.  Yes you can do exactly what you want to do.  I would suggest you look at the Brownell conversion kits. They seem to be complete.  They even have an instruction video.  It seems to be a pretty straight forward conversion.  The cost is about $139.  That plus the cheap Remington BDL stock ($84) means you can take a blind magazine 700 and gain the advantages of a BDL for about $222.  I don't think the Boyd's stock is much more.  I suspect that if you are going to upgrade your stock to something better than the SPS synthetic you would be well advised to spend the additional $139.

I don't know what the Kwik-Klip conversion kit is, but Brownells doesn't call it's kit Kwik-Klip and they say they are using genuine Remington parts.

UPDATE:  I looked up the Kwik-Klip conversion kit sold by Cabelas.  It isn't all that well regarded, but I haven't had any experience with it.  Why don't you buy one and report.

BTW, I really like the $397 price. It is hard to buy a 700 barreled action for that money.  You can sell your used stock on E-Bay and keep your costs down.  Personally, I am thinking about upgrading to something in the Bell and Carlson medalist line or maybe going all in and buying a McMillian stock, glass bedding the action and free floating the barrel.  That would give me a good addition to my safe and a great backup in the fall.

I think Swampman's wood stocked Wally World 700 is pretty cool too.

It's funny, but about half of the guns in my hunting safe are Remingtons.  I hadn't realized that until I looked.  I am not even a Remington fan.

I would do that. Except I would like a Detatchable Box Mag. All the Brownell stuff is drop floor plate. Is there any other alternative detachable box mag manufacture???? Without paying a couple hundred dollars or more for a kit.

The latest rendition of the Kwik-Klip is center feed and works like a charm . I did the trigger on a Whelen last fall , that was equiped with it and I was impressed ! You can find them by Googling Kwik-Klip .

Having had both a hunting rifle with a noisy detachable box magazine and a hunting rifle with a floor plate, I think I prefer a floor plate.  That said, if the detachable box magazine works quietly go for it, especially since the Kwki Klip is about $50 bucks cheaper.

I 'm pretty sure if you buy the Boyds stock you can also buy the conversion kit to change a ADL to a BDL on Boyds website as well.

eBay is a good source for conversion parts.  24hourcampfire is another.

Check out the number of people looking for 788 magazines.  How did all those people loose them?  You'll find out someday too.  Stick with the BDL mag.

I converted my father in-laws Remington model 700 ADL in 22-250 Remington, with NEW Remington SPS stock and NEW Remington SPS conversion kit all bought off EBay for a lot less then Brownells.

I strongly suggest this conversion since I dislike blind magazines for myself and my father in-law loved it too. Able to dump all cartridges easily after a hunt and the floorplate doesn't open on recoil.

It's the Remington factory pad.  The CDL stocks come like this from the factory.

ive got 3 non cdl guns that wear cdl stocks. Ones a 06 identical to yours but mine started as a sps. You can pick them up for under a 100 bucks if you watch and they sure dress up an sps or any rem rilfe. two of mine were bdls one 8mag and one a 7mag, and i dont care for that blocky stock. the cdl and the classics were hands down remintons best stocks. Classic stocks are hard to come by though. Wish i had one right now! another way to really dress up a stainless sps is a LSS stock. Ive got a 300 win mag sps with one and its imo one of the sharpest looking guns i own.
This is my Walmart 700ADL in .30-06.  Stock from ebay and conversion parts from Brownell's.  It's highly accurate.

What is the WalMart website for Remington rifles?
I found something last night but they all had scopes included.  They were 700s however.  A few years ago I stumbled on a WalMart site that sold about everything in a 700 or 7.  Probably just missed it last night.

  Yawn! . . . .

If you want a Remington 700 BDL, go to a couple of large gunshows and find one made in the 1980s for a bargain price.  Why are you going through all of this rigamarol?  You are trying to reinvent the wheel.

I just went and looked at the Walmart 700. It is pretty nice for $400. Its nice and light and shouldered great. The fit and finish looked good. Not the best like a CDL but it was definitely good enough. The bolt worked smoothly, and the cheap stock was not as flimsy as I thought it would be. Unfortunatly it had a trigger lock an it so I was not able to test the X-Mark Pro trigger. Im seriously thinking about this gun!!!!! Maybe Ill buy it Saturday!!! If anybody has one of these or knows someone who does please tell us about it!!!

It seems to me that if you want a wood stock that resembles the old ADL stock you can go to Boyds (http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/PRAIRIE-HUNTER-REMINGTON-700-ADL-LONG-ACTION-p/700-045.htm) about $120 but are backordered right now. They have a plain stock but will put the checkering (http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/category-s/202.htm)  on it for a reasonable price $55.  I am going to get one for my old .30-06 700 ADL whose stock cracked years ago and I replaced it with a synthetic one.  Just want a rifle wearing wood and that .30-06 will just look better with a walnut stock on it.
