As someone else wrote....$900 way too high for what should be a type 38 Arisaka, if it is a 6.5(x50) Jap caliber. Type 99 introduced about 60 years later and it has a 7.7 bore and production of it began shortly before WWII. When made late in WWII, the type 99 is referred to as the "last ditch" rifle since its quality of manufacture suffered. Of course, it might be a Type "I", Italian Carcano made rifle sent to Japan chambered with same cartridge in the 6.5 Jap.....one of these in pristine condition may be worth more....but still not worth $900. Have 2 nicely sporterized 6.5 Type 38s and one Type I...all rechambered from 6.5x50 to 6.5X57 (which is a necked up 257Roberts). Something commonly done in years after WWII since the 6.5x50 Jap ammo wasn't available. Don't think I paid over $125 for any of them. Gent at range I shoot recently bought a type 99 sporter for $100 that was rechambered to 30-06....barrel was still the original 7.7 Jap (.312 or so bore). Saw his target after shooting rifle for first time using factory Remington 30-06 (.308 bullet) and egads, guy was shooting legit 3/4" 100 yard groups with it. On a really good day, I can shoot a 1" group with one of my 6.5x257Rs, most of time 1 1/2" is norm.
