Hey Jake!

Funny you should ask...  ;)

We are still in deer season here in Jawja, but let me told you what be da trooff!  We got the fattest squirrels in the SE!   ;D

Reason being the deer have disappeared, wish I knew why, and the squirrels are getting all the corn from the feeders.   :(

I'm limbering up my 10/22 and come the third weekend in January I'm going to be sitting in my stand with a little supprise for them tree rats!   8)

All I been able to think about for the last month is squirrel and dumplings!   :P

Great!

I was out deer hunting yesterday (didn't see any shootable deer; too far away), but a tree-rat walked right in front of me, about 25 feet away.  He is now in the freezer.  That was the first game I've ever taken as a hunter.  Glad to be part of the crowd.

I've always found tree to be rather tough and fibrous. Never could get it cooked right. ;)

Woldfe28,

Are you related to Euell Gibbons?  I remember seeing him on tv once talking about pine trees and that many parts were edible ;D

You know you are going to get a lot of hate mail from the tree huggers from your post ;D ;D ;D

Congratulations on you first kill ;)

Okay, you all got me.  I corrected it to say "tree-rat" instead of "tree".   ::)

Chalk it up to the new guy being excited.

A while back we woke up to a very cold snowy day. We got about 5 inches of dry snow the night before, it was still going steady when I got up in the morning. My...soon to be... Son-In-Law wanted to go out and set traps; so I went along to lug gear and hunt with my .32 calibre Blue Ridge Rifle.

It was cold, wet and fun. There are several big cottonwood trees along the river where we were making our sets. And as cold as it was that day...the squirrels were out and about. Long story short...While we were wading the river and making sets, I was able to pick up 3 squirrels with my smoke pole.

For dinner that night, we had Squirrel & Wild Rice Soup...very filling and good tasting.

Welcome to the club, and the board.

On my place I'm seeing more grays than fox squirrels, by something like 3 to 1.  Ten miles away on my grandfathers place has almost no gray squirrels, but you can't throw a stick without hitting a fox squirrel.

keep em talkin' while I reload

Down along the rivers, we have Fox Squirrels, and up in the foothills and mountains there are Pine Squirrels and in a few mountain pockets...Alberts Squirrels.
