Gold bead front - v notch rear
« on: January 16, 2004, 04:06:08 AM »
Gents,

I have had no luck finding a reasonably priced drop in set of gold bead / v notch rear set of sights for my Ruger 5.5" 45 colt.

Brother had a red hawk years ago with this type of sight, and were they wonderful.

Since I cannot find these anywhere, I am considering having a machine shop make me a set.  Wondering if there is any demand out there for these?  If so, I will see what I it would cost, and make them available.

My Ruger has a pinned in front sight blade, and the blade on the rear sight is also replaceable, so I figure this could be done by the shooter.

Let me know what you think.

Joe

Sounds very do-able to me.  Let us know how you make out.  You might just get a regular bead front sight and grind down the dovetail sides and bottom to fit the pistol.

Not to sound too stupid but I was wondering if you can adapt the sights for the Redhawk to fit. I have that setup on my SRH and also love it. They are still available from Brownells.

Good luck

I put the gold bead/V-notch sights on a Redhawk I once owned and LOVED it. Suddenly wished all my Rugers had that setup. Traded that Redhawk for another .44 Bisley. Just liked the way the Bisley handled better than the Redhawk. But I sure do miss those sights. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find. :cb2:

Appreciate the comments, guys.  I think I may try modifying the sights for the Redhawk, and see how that goes.  Preliminary indications are that the cost of having a set made would be too high.  Guess if I wanted a couple hundred sets, the price per item might come down, but I don't want to lay out that much cash.

Barber,

Were these for SA revolvers, or just for the Redhawk?
