Tips on where to start reloading 44mag for my Handi

Purchased a Turkey gun, and sent it in for a 44mag barrel. What bullets and powder are you guys having luck with?

I have pretty good luck with H-110 and 2400 using Horned 240 XTP bullets.

Mine likes the magtech 240s jacketed soft point  IF you choose to go with cast make sure you slug the bore so you know what diameter bullets you actually need  (order a couple .000 bigger than the slug measures), if they are too small and don't "bump up" to fill the rifling when fired, chances are good you may not keep them on a 2 foot square at 100 yds and they will tumble. I have the keith bullets for my pistol but I have only used jacketed in my Handi. I use W296 but many of the guys use newer powders... you will get a bunch of different ideas to try with this thread.  Good luck, and have fun!  thejanitor

well, you prolly gunna get a buncha different flavors but i perfer a medium load
hornady 240gr xtp
22gr imr-4227
 
it slings her bout roun 1700fps
 
best you start a lil lower

Nice, the Hornadays shot really good in my S&W, 240 xtps. Gonna stick with jacketed, I have some H110, and 4227.
 
Can't wait to load a few and see how she does. I've got a older compact tasco, fixed four power, that was made in japan. Think I'll put it on this one and try it out.

I like Elmer Keith's loads using 240 grain to 255 grain cast bullets, "...and a goodly amount of 2400"


296 and H110 have also worked well for me.  My Handi (and luckily my Ruger Super RedHawk) likes cast bullets sized to .432"


Just 'cause I could I built a load for the Handi using IMR 3031 also (printed load from an old flier from IMR)  It worked well enough, but I hate seperating ammo beyond caliber.
