Looking to scope a 12 gauge 1187 slug barrel.
« on: December 17, 2011, 02:04:08 AM »
This would be for deer hunting,   Im looking for a bomb proof setup, what are your suggestions?   I was thinking of Warner mounts and a Nikon slugmaster.  Ideas?

Thanks

I use Burris on a 1100 12ga. and it has never failed. I would pick the new Fullfield II E1 2x7x35 with Ballistic Plex and windage marks. Two other slug guns sport Nikon Monarch and a new Redfield both with BDC. All of these scopes have held up fine.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.

I was looking at a Swift 2.5-10x50, but I ain't sure if it'll hold up...I would rather have a Vortex 2.5-10X44 HS but the price is quite a bit more. Definately can't go wrong with Burris, got one on my Mzl Loader and I really like it!

Greetings, here is a cheap one for $114 with
http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Collector-Edition-Multi-X-Reticle/dp/B003UHU15Y/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1337726659&sr=8-11
Be on the look out for Nikon Pro Staff 3-9X BDC on special for $100 after rebate from time to time at Dicks and Amazon. The Pro Staff BDC is the biggest joke, no adjustable rings like Bushnell!
The Bushnell 3-9X BDC Banner gives you a bunch of elevation turrets rings for different calibres up to 500 yards if you were to use them on a high power rifle,I like that!
Image
Optics Planet has a Bushnell Banner BDC 3-9X with those elevation rings for $98 including shipping!
Hope it helps.

I have a Mueller Hybrid 3x9x40 on my 1187 cantelever barrel.  The problem I had with regular scopes was that with the cantelever barrel I could not mount them far enough back to get the proper eyer relief for me.  The Mueller Hybrid has longer eye relief and it was perfect.  I shoot Remington Buckhammers and most of the time at 100yds can get holes to touch or pretty close.  It has been close to two years and I have not had to make any adjustments yet.  I don't remember what I paid for it but it was quite a bit less than other comparable scopes of the more popular brands.

I have a cheap Bushnell dusk to dawn 1.5 x 7 on my 870.  It came on a used ML I bought several years ago. I used it 3 years before removing it cause the field had the muzzle of the front stuffer in it.
I bought a pair of bushnell banner 3x9 BDC scopes way back in the the 1960's. One is mounted on my 308 cal Remington 700 still works great today. the blank ring is the cats meow when useing reloads cause you can mark the dial to suit the load.

The scond one was put on a 243Cal Remington 700 again it is the cats meow for the reloads and shooting. Shoot several humndred yards across cramberry bogs at coyotes and then shorter yardage at whitetail deer and inbetween at crows.
Hard to beat the Bushnel for the price.
