Reed ammo? WTheck???
« on: December 17, 2011, 12:19:24 PM »
So i order some .357 Max ammo from http://shop.reedsammo.com/main.sc and they send me this???

"We need your FOID and ammunition statement on file before we can ship this order."???????????????????

I just want to buy some ammo....  why would they send this?

My FFL holder requires any firearms to be shipped to them via another FFL holder.  So, If I make an offer on a firearm please let me know if this is capable of being done from the start.  Please do NOT mark an item "SPF" to me until we "both" are happy with and in agreement on shipping, funds and the transaction in general.   Thanks

Ah yes, the old FOID (Firearms Owner ID)
One of the reasons I moved out of Illinois many years ago.

From the Illinois State Police website:
Unless specifically exempted by statute, any Illinois resident who acquires or possesses firearm or firearm ammunition within the State must have in their possession a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card issued in his or her name.

I agree, BUT its more than that for some companies... Take Sportsmans Guide. They will not send me a knife. There is NO limitations on such shipments to Connecticut and of coarse I am old enough, ::) BUT they will not ship it. Another BUT.. They just shipped me 10 boxes of 12 Ga slugs, NO PROBLEM.

My point sometimes it makes no sence at all...

I've been asked for a copy of my driver's license when buying ammo which can't be sold to a minor, that would be one reason they'd ask for documentation, to determine your age. If you read their terms and conditions as required when you go to their online page, you'll see why.

Thank the State of Illinois for your problems. It has always been a hassle for me to order ammo. I would routinely have it sent to my family in IN and then pick it up when visiting them the following weekend.

Thanks, Dinny

It's not just for Illinois, it's for anyone buying ammo from them, I've had to do it for Grafs, Midsouth, Bulleye Ammo and Midway IIRC,  they can't legally sell ammo to just anyone.

HA!  I am 0 for 10!

But the retailer doesn't know how old you are, the first sentence of the Ammunition Statement is I am of legal age to purchase ammunition. That should give you a hint as to what they need.  ;)

There are other ways of making sure they're making a legal sale without the required documentation, I just checked Midway, when you check out when submitting the order, this statement is at the bottom of the page:

Quote
*By clicking on a "Place Order" button above, you are verifying that you understand the following:

MidwayUSA offers some products that may be restricted by Federal, State and/or Local laws. We do not authorize the right to purchase any products that may be restricted in your area.

You must be at least 21 years of age to purchase certain products such as airguns, ammunition, black powder products, knives or reloading components. Under Federal law 18 U.S.C. 922(D)(1)-(9), persons with a legal disability are also restricted from purchasing certain products.

If and when you get the Maxi ammo from them you will like it. ;)  I got a box of their 200gr. hardcast ammo for my Maxi and it shoots great. They are good folks to deal with.

No one else has made Maxi Brass is some time. Federal did as did Winchester, but not any longer... SO its quite doubtful you will find any.

Thanks, it just occurred to me that someone might be working from a large inventory.
I'm necking down some maxi's for a wildcat, and I should test any brass that is still available.

A lot of weird rules for these companies are set up by their attorneys.  They don't want to run afoul of the liberal establishment.
I had a problem, with Bass Pro stores.  They refused to sell me a BP rifle because of my zip code.  After I called them, they said that it was because, I lived in NYC.  I told them to check a map, and that they would discover that, I don't live within 70 miles of that place. Regardless, they refused to sell me the BP rifle.  So I bought it from Cabellas instead.  I refused to purchase anything from Bass Pro after that, even though they send me email specials all the time.

I dunno who made it, but Dan Wesson 357 Max ammo has a Dan Wesson headstamp, it's also nickel IIRC, probably made by Rem.

They as well as Midsouth also have a document requirement to buy ammo.

I have done business with the same places for so long I had forgotten all the hoops ya have to jump through.  I have even mail ordered cannons (scale size not full sized) capable of live firing without question.  Reading all this reminded me of filling out all the statements of eligibility once these are on file with a seller, they should not question an order from an established customer.

The last loaded ammunition I purchased was a bunch of .30 caliber M2 Ball from the CMP.  Was priced low enough that I couldn't load it to feed my Garand and 03's and match the cost.  But then, they've had the equivalent of a 4473 on file for me since I bought my first rifle from them years ago.  Otherwise, all I buy online is components.  Found it interesting after the last election that when I finally found two kegs of Varget, they were shipped, then held up somewhere in the midwest for "additional inspection by an unnamed government agency".......what in the world!!!
