Powder Charge Containers
« on: December 18, 2011, 11:07:01 AM »
The wife is diabetic and her test strip containers are the perfect size to hold black powder for my golf ball mortar.  The 'One Touch' brand holds up to 250 grains of powder.  She gives me about 3 every two weeks, so they add up fast.

I also shoot 1 5/8" inch PVC filled with concrete outta my golf ball mortar, so, if anyone is tired of just blasting golf balls, give it a try.

I'm sorry you have such a good source of powder containers.   Clever.

Yep, those work real good. Been using those for a couple of years for the kicker charges on my 24pdr.

Triple D, How far can you launch those concrete filled pvc pipes out of your GB mortar?

Haven't shot the concrete filled PVC out of the pictured mortar, but another one I have that has a longer barrel, and have only shot it horizontal at a target less than 100 yards.

My girlfriend has given me a bunch of those test strip containers; but, I haven't used any of them, yet. I  use the 35mm film containers to hold the foil powder charges for my 1" bore cannon.  For larger foil powder charges for my GB cannon I've gotten a bunch of Play Dough containers that teachers have thrown away at school. They're like the 35mm film containers only larger. For larger sizes there is probably some tupperware containers that would work.

Not an issue.  Black powder is covered with graphite - it's conductive.

There have been a number of videos shot to document trying to ignite it with electric arcs - didn't work.
