Compact USH 20 ga exceeding expectations
« on: December 18, 2011, 12:21:10 PM »
After much work getting this gun set up,, it's a killer
2-7x32 Nikon on low mounts, bobbed hammer, homemade cheek pad, Boyds 2nds T-hole stock, 2.5# trigger.

Dropped 5 deer on a managed hunt, stopped shooting, had more shots but remembered I had to gut, drag, and process them.
All the shots were 100-120 yard shots, I would have never attempted it with my other guns.

I am shooting 5.99 box Federal sabot slugs, they are a 1450 FPS slug, I had only practiced out to 100 yards, I may go to a 1800-1900 FPS slug and practice out to 200, this gun can handle it.

enjoy:

Nice job. How short did you cut the barrel back? How did you cut the crown?

Lon,
it's a  "Compact USH" with the 22" barrel, no barrel work done.

Wow- post this on the Handi Success thread and the 20 ga USH will get a huge boost in the tally. Any of the H&R Singles are included it is in the NEF H&R rifle section. Good job.  thejanitor

I got the 20 guage also and mine is a tack driver with those same slugs. They are slower then the lighter say sst slugs but at that price you cant beat them. have mine dead on at 100. i was thinking the same thing with trying to get the faster slugs to see what works but i will never shoot a deer in pa further then 150 even in rifle designated areas. Just need to get to the 150 and 200 yard range to see what the true drop is. Congrats. By the way where did you get your sabots for 5.99. I cant find them that cheap anywhere.

OK, I'll expose(and hopefully correct) my ignorance here, what is a "Compact USH" and how is it different from a regular Handi?   ???
