Went on and took the plunge and started cutting off the magazine spring so I could get 10 .38's in the tube.  This rifle (Carbine?) was designed for only 9 but after wacking 3 inches off I can load 10.  The 94CS is for both .357 and .38 so I would like to get 10 of the longer ones in as it seems to run better.  Now that I have a new magazine spring from Brownells I'll keep cutting until I get 10 .357's in or there isn't enough tension left.  Only out $6 or so and that's a cheap experiment in CAS

My wife shoots one o them in 38 and unaltered can get 10 38's in it 9 and 10 are harder than #1 but not that bad and fer her auther- itic fingers. Now a friend got one fer his wife that wouldn't  load 10, in checking it out he found that the screw that goes between the barrel and mad. tube through the barrel band intruded into the mag tube so as to stop the fallower er what ever ya calls that dohicky what follows the ammo down the tube. So he marked the screw in the tube took it out and waisp-waisted it at that point and it now hold 10 easily without shortning the spring. Now I ain't much good at writin stuff so sure hope ya get my drift on this.  Charlie Bull

Thanks montana,

Turns out that my follower is below the cross-screw even with 10 .357's in the tube.  Was just a matter of cutting off the spring and trying it.  Do appreciate the idea, though; will come in handy down the road.

I took the opposite tack a few years ago.  Just to have one-of-a-kind, I altered mine to a half magazine.  Pretty simple, just cut off the mag. tube, redrill for the plug (required a dovetail blank in the barrel to screw into), cut off the spring to the same ratio (1/3), cut off barrel behind the foreward band notch, recrown.  I no longer have it, as I traded it in toward a Sharps, but it held six rounds of .357 and was as dainty as could be!
