Old custom loading boxes
« on: December 19, 2011, 03:13:49 PM »
My father and I are going in on setting my brother up with a Lee Loader, primers, powder, and bullets. He always asks for ammo for Christmas, so I figure its a good starter. I know back in the early days of Sharp's and other cartridge arms high end rifles came with loading kits in wooden boxes. I'm wanting to make him a box for the loader, primers, and bullets and wondered if anybody has or has seen pictures of those original boxes.
If he's carrying a singleshot, don't expect a warning shot!

Most of the reloading boxes I have seen that contain all the stuff for reloading either at home or at the range were usually made by their owners. I had an old 20mm ammo can that I used to store all my stuff in. A lot of the bench rest shooters had either made their own boxes for use at the range or custom made. Check out some of the black powder forums for custom made boxes. If you are doing the work then try furniture grade plywood as it's way better than regular plywood. Good to work with and sands and finishes well. Also try Buffalo arms as they may have a range box that fits your needs. Frank

if you have a sam's club around you they did sell a small wood box that has latches and a small tray, think its about 20 bucks or so. Or try either lowe's or home depot as I think they sell something similar. I have one that I bought sometime back. Nicely made and should fit in with what you are looking for. Hope this helps. Frank

You could get him one of the boxes here http://www.nrastore.com/nrastore/Products.aspx?c=5 and then build compartments and cartridge trays to go inside.
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

Try Dixie Gun Works, if they are still in business, they may have something.

Also try cal-graf.com.  They make a really neat box that black powder cartridge shooters use. May give you some additional ideas. Their boxes are made of walnut or oak, and have some nice fittings.  If you are going to build, these may give you something to work with also.
