Christmas holiday: Do what you like, or not?

It's always been family stuff for me. I'd rather just go hunting in the morning and not come back until dark. Do you do what you want on Christmas day?

My kids are all grown and it's usualy just me and the wife all by our lonesome. I often go hunting as she cooks Christmas dinner for us. Keeps me happy and her too as it keeps me out of her kitchen. ;) Besides, our Muzzleloader Season now includes Christmas day. :)

I'll be going to Church, as I do on every Lord's day, but I might do a little late afternoon hunting.

Being retired, I pretty much do what I want to do for most of the time, but come Christmas day, I pretty much do what my wife says we're going to do.  This year, Christmas day should be easy; I think we're going up to my sister's place for dinner--no grandkids etc.  It's Christmas Eve that I'm not looking forward to.  There's going to be about five grandkids there and a couple million presents to open.  The good thing is that it's going to be at my daughters place and we're supposed to be out of there in about three hours.  They have to go to another party and we don't.  Goody.

I know a woman that was married to the same guy for fifteen years. They had a son, and the woman played Santa Claus every year for that fifteen years, while her husband went to different barns of his farmer friends and drank at their BBQs with all his friends. Never spent a Christmas Eve, or Christmas day with her and their son, or the family.
Now he spends Christmas with himself. Most of his partying buddies have either died, or became domesticated. She remarried and spends Christmas with her new husband and their families. I wonder if that guy could undo 40 years ago, if he would.
I have had Christmas' where I was not all that enthused, but it is a time to put self, on the shelf I think, and put God, and family in front of all else. One never knows when theirs, or a family members last Christmas, will be this Christmas. This will be the 6th Christmas since my Dad died, and his last one was a pretty good one.

I always spend time with family. Now days that might mean more than one get together, but I don't mind. I like my family (in limited portions  ;D )  and enjoy visiting. In the past we might go hunting some, or maybe shooting. But we usually spend most of the time together.
