IINM, Larry built one of these last year for Tim!
 
Its a neat idea, I have a couple for 22RF's in 12 and 16 ga. Not too accurate, would work as a coup DE gra, but terribly inaccurate at anything past powder singing ranges. :o
 
Doing it with a rifled barrel would help immensely! But you still have the lack of sights to deal with... Maybe stub it!?

  Thanks for the reply. I have seen the stub threads here but have never tried one. Have done several inserts and I put  rifle sights on the sg bbl., the bbls that I used were old take-offs of of pistols, threaded the chambered inserts and screwed the old bbls into them. They are not very accurate but are just fun projects. I am retired and just play in the shop.

Now that deer fever is about over for a year, Charlie, my Feist, the beagles and I will concentrate on squirrels and bunnies.  We're gonna leave the shotguns and .22s at home and try the .32-20 with Berry's .312 dia. 71 gr. plated RN loaded to run 600-800 fps.  It should be an interesting experiment.

Our 32-20's have been keeping meat in the pot for too many years to mention!  Its gonna work just dandy!
 
I'm off this week too, Bunnies tomorrow AM with the beagles for me too! I'll bring my Savage 22/410 with me tho. ::)

I looked and looked for many years. Never found one I liked oe was willing to pay for!  Then I decided it was time to shat or get off the pot. I started watching GB and bought the nicest one I found... Paid a bit much but like I said I always wanted it and I ain't getting any younger so I bought it... ::)

Thanks for this link, and thanks for all the help everyone!  If I sound like I think I know everything, it should be obvious that ain't true!  I am just the type of person that needs 'convincing'.  Hopefully I did not come off that way. 

Money is tight right now, but I might just go for the barrel and send it and the action off to my gunsmith.  He has a year lead, hopefully that might be enough time to roll the pennies and nickels.

I would guess the SB1 would suffice for this project? 

My dad had a Savage 24 when I was young, I believe he sold it in hard times or to fund our move out west.  Really neat guns to me.  I would buy one in 32-20/20 gauge or even 357 mag/20 guage but I am not holding my breath for them to make it or me to have enough money ;).

YES, a SB1 is just fine with the little 32.  Its pressure rating is in the dirt (IIRC 16K) and even hottest loads barely hit 30K.
 
My own it on a SB1 and I do shoot allot of the hotter loadings of 100G bullets at 22-2300fps and the 123 @ 16-1700 fps.

I did a little research on the barrel diameter, thought I had seen something on it years ago. Seems Ruger and Thompson Contender used 308 bores on their firearms.

T/C has chosen the 308 bore. It's a bastard setup and mine did not shoot well at all. The thinking is its extra lo pressured and has only been offered in lead bullets for many years.
They skirt the issue with jacketed loads because Like most manufacturers reloaded ammo will void warenty.

Ruger did it as they already had the 30 carbine Blackhawks and simply made a extra cyl in 32-20. Not really the same as its a revolver and is not chambered the same. The lead is in cylinder and forcing cone in barrel. Plus as stated most ammo is lead bullets. The easily swage to the smaller dia.

If a guy was shooting .312 inch bullets lead or jacketed out of the .308 inch bore, it would be more pressure and not less than smaller diameter 30 caliber bullets. 

The 32-20 is really a fat 30 caliber not a 8mm.  There is some confusion there among shooters.

The 32-20 is really a fat 30 caliber not a 8mm.  There is some confusion there among shooters.
I agree rip, the larger bullet is harder to move thru the barrel making pressure's higher. (I did not intend to suggest otherwise.) My point was the factory loaded ammo is under 10K, both the T/C and Ruger are rated for nearly five times that pressure. Its doubtful that a 312 lead slug form a 10K caliber would reach twice that in pressures... A number still very safely with in design parameters for either of these firearms.

Agreed, the 32 Winchester SPECAIL uses a .321 dia bullet while the 8MM uses a .323 (OR the "J" a 318 dia) bullet. While the little 32-20 uses .312 dia bullets
