Black Bear guide near Anchorage/Whittier
« on: January 16, 2004, 03:52:59 PM »
Any recommendations, websites? The only thing I have found so far is $5000 for a week, I think this to be a bit much. Help!!!! I want a float style hunt or a lodge/cabin hunt.

THanks,

Rick

You might try Ketchum Air.  He used to have a ofice in Valdez but down sized a few years ago.  It is my understanding that he is still operating a little.

Most of the lodges do fishing and eco-tourism that I know of.  Much of the area is fed land and off limits to lodges.

There are some charter boats but most do halibut in the spring. You might call Bob at Alutiiq Charters in Valdez.  Bob runs a sleep-a-board hunting and fishing service.

Am I boring folks with my black bear searches? I will be leaving perryville after my brown bear hunt and want to get a week in with some black bear hunting, not sure why everyone is charging so much. How about you guiding me and I bring you something nice? Is that legal??? Thanks for your help, I hope to be a regular here as I have all but given up everything but deer and bear. Homer sure was nice, is snowfall above average so far this year?

Thanks,

Rick

Look up Cap'n Ron's Alaskan Adventures.  His prices are well under half what you're seeing thus far.  If you look for my Montague thread you can learn a bit more about him...

Dave,

I leave in 6 days.  I'll miss the family and Alaska (but, hey it's winter here) but it ought to be an adventure.

Once an Alaskan always an Alaskan!  Keep in touch and stay safe over there.  Remember our previous PM's.

If Tundra Walrus ever needs anything just have her call.  Is the family staying here or leaving too?  I know back in NY when the 10th Mountain deployed many a time the families went back to other family members for support.

There is always a place on the boat for ya.  Stay safe! :D

Thanks Dave.  Tundra and the kids are staying up here.  She hates flying.  I'm on an 11-man team and her best friend is my S-2's wife....and I'm sure they'll find ways to spend the $$$ while we're gone.

I'll remember the PMs and shoot you an e-mail as soon as I've got my hasty dug and I'm up on computer  .

Hope to see you in a year or two when I return for my next Alaska fix :D .

June may be too late for bears but halibut are in full swing!

Please keep in touch with all of us here and maybe I can get the boy out fishing while your gone.  We never did that fall trip for silvers so I owe you one.

Keep safe over there and never do the same thing two days in a row! Men are creatures of habit and that can kill ya.
