Got some harvester sabots that are .50/.475, and some 400 gr. speer gold dot soft points figuring they'd make a great hog load, but now i can't find any load data. does this combo sound like a bad idea? Anybody else out there shoot 400 gr. sabots? I am very new to BP. Thanks-Tad :-)

Not sure what gun you have, but the heaviest sabots I've shot are Buffalo SSB's-- 435 gr. and 375 grain .45 / 50. Either one of these hogs will take a hog with 90 grains of RS or so.

When you say "work up" how do you know when pressures get too high with a muzzle loader? I could chrony the loads if i knew what kind of velocity to look for. Thanks-Tad

Its a new frontier beartooth magnum,24" bbl.,1/28 twist. Says i can only shoot magnum loads of 150grs using pellets. Loose powder it recomends 100gr loads.

I don't believe your manual allows the use of a sabot over 300 grains, you might want to check.

Your right Randy,my manual does say that. I guess i have a bunch of bullets i can't use. :|
