ceadersavage2:  Never go to UPS or Fed-Ex to ship muzzleloaders.  I won't use them for shipping guns period.  They will make you use an FFL for delivery, no exceptions.  No need.  Mail it through the USPS, muzzleloaders are exempt.  Problem is sometimes the postal employees don't know their own rules.  Just make sure their is no markings on the outside that identifies it as a firearm.   I bought a gun from a friend who had an FFL.  He told me to make sure I kept the cardboard sleeve that covered the box.  He explained that if I needed to send the gun back to the manuf for repairs I would need that sleeve to cover the box that had the manufs logo on it.

Last November I wanted to get a couple of rifles and a shotgun to my son in Oregon for his birthday.  Boxed them up, mailed them from myself here in North Pole.  To myself at his address in Oregon.  I showed up the day before his birthday, I opened the box and gave him his Birthday Presents.  Everything up front and legal.  This can only be done with long guns, not pistols.  If you are going on a hunt with friends living, out west, or in Alaska.  Mail your gun from yourself to yourself.  Easier than taking it on the plane with you.  And in my openion handled a lot less rough than the airlines.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

There's a lot of ignorance in the non-shooting public, you just have to be smarter than the person behind the counter. If it was a third party UPS store, they won't accept anything related to firearms, they've even refused scopes! But UPS regs are pretty clear about shipping firearms which they be be inclined to include muzzleloaders. +1 on using the USPS, but it you take the ML to a UPS Customer center, you shouldn't have any problems, read the last paragraph on where to ship.

I also had a problem with my UPS center (not a 3rd party UPS).  The first time I sent out a BP rifle, no problem, the second time I sent out a BP rifle, minor problem, the same counter guy who handled the first shipment told me that a UPS security guy had told him that he wasn't supposed to be accepting BP rifles unless I had an FFL.  I very nicely told him that the UPS security guy didn't know what he was talking about.  I further informed him that if he wanted to I would wait while he contacted the security guy or the local police, and that I would prove it to him.  The counter guy was really polite and said that he would accept the shipment, but if there was a problem, that they would call me.  I told him that would be okay with me, and I told him that I had a copy of the Law book that specifically covered that part (which stated that BP rifles and pistols are not considered firearms), and if the security guy wanted to get a copy, I would be glad to give him the section of the law, and that he could look it up.  I since went back to the UPS facility and sent out another BP rifle with the same guy at the counter, I asked him about the "problem shipping BP rifles", he said that he mentioned it to the security guy, and to his credit, the security guy said that he was wrong.

In your case it would help to have a copy (print out the reg. that quick gave you a link for) of the UPS regulations to show them, unless they were a 3rd party UPS store, then they wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Your best bet is what quick recommended, using the USPS, less of a hassle, and I found out it was also a lot less expensive, which was a bonus.

The last muzzleloader I got from Track of the Wolf was shipped UPS. They asked me to pick it up in person so that it wouldn't be left at the end of the road to my cabin. They did right by me.

Isn't it a Federal Law that an FFL has to be at one end or the other of a firearms shipment? I believe it is.....

A muzzleloader does not come under the heading of firearm. They can be shipped right to your door.As sourdough said....You can mail a firearm to yourself without going through ffl, If your hunting out of state for instance.Ship to a friend or relatives, outfitter or such. Just be there to receive and sign for it yourself.

When ever shipping firearms, either back to the manufacturer or to a gun smith, I just tell them machined parts and insure it.
