Christmas Kimber Ultra CDP II Crimson Carry
« on: December 26, 2011, 12:11:16 PM »
Hi Guys:

Well Santa was very good to me this year, my wife gave me a Kimber Ultra CDP II Crimson Carry .45 ACP for Christmas  :D . I was a bit skeptical with all the posts about Kimber quality control, and small 3 in. barrels jamming and such.

Well all I got to say is this is one sweet pistola. I ran over 100 rounds of the cheap Winchester 230 grain FMJ's. Then about 50 rounds of Remington Golden Saber 185  P's, Then about 25 handloads Hornady XTP's 185 grain at 1100 FPS. It gobbled them all up, never a hitch so far. And this thing is accurate, even with the cheap Winchester fodder at 25 yards I was shooting about 3 in groups from the bench. All I had to do is turn my CT screw a hair to the right and it was dead at 15 & 25 yards.

The take down for cleaning is a bit different with that goofy wire in the hole thing, but that is a minor inconvenience.

All in all I am very happy. The looks of the black aluminum frame with the silver slide and controls is awesome. The Nite Sights work great. And I have always have been a fan of Crimson Trace. These are the first hand grip CT laser sights I have, but like there other trigger guard models they works great.

I got a Don Hume holster and ammo carrier and it's seems to be a perfect match. It is a belt setup FBI cant forward with the leather extension on the inside so the gun never touches your body. Especially when it is under neath your sweatshirt and you don't have a t-shirt underneath.  :P

My usual CC ammo for the .45 ACP is Remmie GS 185's  P but I am going to try Double Tap. I use DT for my 9MM & 40 S&W and it hits hard, very accurate and at a good price.

You lucky dog!!

IMO there is no better IWB carry gun than the Ultra Carry. Totally reliable and accurate as most fullsize! What's not to like!!
Congratulations,
Savage

I've got the CDP PRO II and absolutely love it.  No problems what so ever although like you the bent wire thing is a bit of a pain.  I've shot Winchester white box, Remington and Hornady and all shoot to the same place with good accuracy.  The only thing I've noticed is that where the slide runs on the frame some of the black is coming off.

Hi Long:

I just got a tool for the the Kimber. It looks like a hollow bullet case with the side cut out. Instead of using the bent wire that comes with the Kimber, you slide this over the RSA assembly front, turn it clockwise and just remove the slide. Re assemble the same way. It is a  bit pricey at $25 bucks, but it works very slick.

I like the Remington Golden Saber ammo in the 185 grain  P for my 45 ACP's. Double tap's 185 grain HP's are 1225 FPS . I also want to give them a try for defense.

Hi Long:

Yep I will post it here when I get back home. Here is what happened. I just put a couple of hundred rounds through the CDP and was trying to figure out how to take out the RSA (Retaining Spring Assembly) for those non Kimber owners, with the metal clip stuck in the hole. Naturally the instructions didn't make sense to me. So I went out on Youtube and typed in Kimber CDP disassemble. Poof there was about 10 videos and this video of this tool, and how it worked.

You can go out there now and see a video of it. It cost $25 and $5 to ship. It also comes with a lanyard and hook so you won't loose it. LOL

Hi Long: here you go try www.1911UltraTool.com It comes with a nice manual of instructions. It is American Made, American Inovation and American Quality.

It's one of those things that says, heck why didn't I think of that. This guy Ron Pageler has a good marketing idea.  ;)

ive got two of the little cdps and there fine guns. Mine are both unbelievably accurate and very reliable. Ive preached for years that kimbers cdps were the best bang for the buck in a ccw 1911. They got features that usualy come on guns twice there price.
