Since you are talking handguns, I would say Unique if you are going to cast, 2400 if you shoot mostly jacketed.
In handguns I use cast mostly, and would use about 5.5 grs unique in a 357 and 158 gr, about 8.5 or so in a 44 with a 240gr. My rifle loads are 14 gr of 2400 and 158gr in a 357, and 23.5 gr of 2400 and a 200gr JHP in a 44. They will work in a good mag pistol, but I do not shoot heavy pistol loads anymore. I did use the 44 load in a Ruger superblackhawk hunter in the past with good results. Either powder can do it all adequately, but depending on the bulk of your shooting, one will slightly edge the other.

When I got back into handgun shooting and reloading, ol' GrayBeard told me all I needed was Unique and 2400.  I have found no reason to question that wisdom in shooting my various 38's, 44's and 45's.  But I must confess I bought a pound of H-110 for my .500 S&W!   ;D

to big of a swing. Ive never been into the one size fits all thought. My cabinet is full of many powders that would take care of mag pistols but each level of loading does its best with a powder designed for the purpose.

..............same here.  One can use a splittin' maul for makin' kindling, but a hatchet is the correct tool for the job. Same goes for powders. Use the best tool for the job at hand.

FWIW...

I use a lot of Unique in .44 Special, .45 Colt. .41 Magnum and .44 Magnum.

I use a lot of Blue Dot in .357 Magnum and .41 Magnum.

I use a lot of 2400 in .44 magnum.

I use a lot of Bullseye in .45 ACP and .45 Auto Rim.

I use a lot of 296 and H110 in .41 and .44 Magnum.

I use some other powders here and there, depending on what I am trying to achieve performance or cost wise. And sometimes, I just want to try a different powder to see if I can work up a more accurate or better performing load for a given bullet style/weight.

The bottom line...I use what works for the results I want to achieve. I don't care which powder works best for that particular application (no preconceived ideas), but will use whatever powder does the job performance and cost wise.

To me that is what reloading is all about...finding a combination of bullet weight/style and powder that produces the desired result.

Anyone have any experience and comments on Titegroup?  Thinking about trying some as a cheap to use paper punching powder for the handi rifle.
