Hmmm Interesting as none of the ones I own are so marked. I had the MH 18 in .222 rem since sold as I need to free up a slot on my licence. I own two various model 18's in 12 bore and one in 20 bore and the Model 27 O/U. I also owned a 12 Bore SxS NE that was my first ever shotgun.

That's the older model 18 in 12 bore

That's the .222 Rem. I stripped and reshaped the forestock and cleaned up and improved the buttstock. we didn't get walnut here just artic birch it seems.

I have the Baikal 12ga/3006 O/U and its great very accurate even with slugs in the 12ga barrel.I also had a 22/410 O/U and a 22mag/410 I thought those were cheaper made than the 12/06 they had the action release on the underside not on top and I traded those off.

I know this is an old thread but just ordered and picked up from my LGS a new Baikal MP-18MN in .223.  Although I won't have a chance to get it to the range until Saturday, I had no problem mounting a 4-16X 40mm scope on the rifle using the Sun Optics adapter rail designed for the rifle.  My MP came in synthetic and seems pretty nice although the action is very stiff still.  Hopefully it will prove to be an accurate shooter come this weekend.  Once I get it shot, I will post an update with my impressions of its performace.

Did you ever get around to sighting it in?  How does it shoot?  I've seen a few of the shotguns around but none of the rifles yet...
