Predator 10

Is these savage mod predator 10's worth 700 dollers?i know that is a crazy question but i am looking in to maybe getting 1, and was wondering if any of you guys out there have 1, they look like they would shoot great  groups, i am looking into  geting 1 in 22 250 for coyote and bobcat hunting,  but dont wont to be out 7 bills for a rifle that doesnt shoot as good as it looks, thanks for the info

I too have been looking for reports and most involve the earlier 22" barreled ones. 3 guys bought 1 each and got less than 1/2 MOA. Others got 1/2 to 1 MOA with factory ammo. Sounds like it is worth taking a chance on. With reloads one should get 1/2 MOA, but lucky to get target grade accuracy. Might get a so-so one too but almost everybody are satisfied with Savage's  accuracy. I would prefer the 700 action though.
 
I'm not crazy about getting a Savage but they brought out the Predator with a 24" medium heavy barrel, in a LH .243 and I consider this the best choice for an all around coyote rifle out to 600 yards. I'm not crazy about the accu-stock, but if I got 1/2MOA or better it would be ok. Nobody else has one like this.
If Savage had a LH target action, I would build one with a laminated stock, and a 26 inch MH barrel in 6BR for both coyote and 1000 yard shooting. It wouldn't cost that much more than the Predator rifle. It is still a SS though. So it is hard to have only one rifle for everything.

I have a couple Savages at present, and have had a few more.  My brother also has a couple, and has had several more.


I struggle with the notion of paying $700+ for the gun you refer to.  I cannot see any reason to believe they take more care in assembling or finishing the Predator than any other gun they make.  They might, but I see nothing to suggest to me that they do.  So really, the price spread between the Predator and a humble Model 11 at any sporting goods or department store, which is nearly 50% of the Predator's price, is extremely hard to justify.  I've had a very sharp-looking 'camo' Savage before, that was done with a couple or three cans of Krylon and some masking tape.  Hardly $350 worth.


That doesn't mean the Predator isn't a good-shooting rifle, though, and it doesn't mean I think nobody should buy them.  My suggestion with ALL Savage rifles is to personally handle and operate the EXACT item you're contemplating purchasing.  Their AccuTriggers, while widely lauded as outstanding, are in fact highly variable from one assembly to the next.  Some are indeed very good, while others are astonishingly creepy.

I agree about the Price...too much. The only difference between the predator and an SPS V is the barrel weight/length, and the Remington is $200 less.
