What are you reloading right now?
« on: December 28, 2011, 05:03:28 PM »
Just interested to see what others are reloading. And if you'd like to include your Reload Data, and a brief description...feel free to include that as well.  8)

I'm getting ready for some fairer weather (hopefully) in the near future and a chance to spend a few days out at my range, and also doing a little varmint hunting later in the year. I'm planning on purchasing a few new scopes maybe this week and I'll be testing them out on several of my rifles.

11 Dec I reloaded 40 rounds of .300 Winchester Magnum, 165gr Barnes TSX, 73.5 grains of H4831SC...with CCI Large Rifle primers.

23 Dec I reloaded 100 rounds of .308 Winchester, 165 gr Sierra BT, 48.0 gr W748...Winchester Large Rifle Primers

28 Dec I reloaded 150 rounds of .223 Remington, 55 gr Hornady SPWC, 24.0 gr WC-844 ...Winchester Small Rifle Primers (mixed millitary brass)

28 Dec I reloaded 150 rounds of .223 Remington, 55 gr Hornady SX, 24.0 gr WC-844 ...Winchester Small Rifle Primers (mixed millitary brass)

30-30 with 150 sierra fp,,IMR 4064

308 win with 168 SMK,, Varget

223 for the 24" Handi Fluted Bull 1-9 55rgn Nosler BT and H4895. This one is interesting, I was getting 3400 +/-fps when working my development showing near moa groups. I need to go back and mess with seating a bit to see if I can tighten'm up some, then try 200 and 300yrd for zero.

I really want to try the new Nosler Varminators but no-one in town has'm yet.(yet) I've had really good luck with the Ballistic Tip in 3 different guns now but they leave a big exit hole,, it ruins an other wise good pelt on a coyote or fox.

Just finished up loads for a 6x45 AR15 with 70gr TNTs and 90gr Speers. I'm playing with primers. The gun has already shot several one hole groups so why am I playing with it?. Sumthin to do.

At the risk of starting something, I am into a duplex load development for the 45-70 using Black Powder, IMR3031, and CCI Magnum primers.  Trying to get a 400 grain hollowpoint cast bullet to around 1,800 fps

other than that my bench has gotten rather dusty the past two years.  I had thought that owning more land would allow more opportunities to shoot, seems to not be that way for me.

On the 24th of December, I started prepping several houndred rounds of .223 Remington.

Over the next several days I polished the cases, wiped the cases clean (to remove that dang jewelers rouge), full length sized the cases...wiped the cases clean again, then trimmed the cases to length. My last steps before loading were to ream out the primer pockets (Millitary Brass) and then touch up the inside and outside of the case mouths.

Once all that was completed, I then could get to the fun part, priming, dropping powder and seating bullets... 8)

Today I loaded the last 200 rounds of these cases. Man that feels so good to have that done.

Then while I was cleaning up and putting all my components away; I found a ziplock bag of 200-300 once-fired .223 mixed millitary cases that I had missed. It'll have to wait till later...I want to go read a good book right now.  ???

Actually, nothing. I am doing inventory, seperating and cleaning brass, checking power and primer stocks(such as they are), cleaning dies and my workspace. I am getting molds ready, an if the weather holds for awhile I will cast some in January.  am looking at picking up a couple of new die sets, and continue to pick up brass where I am short. I have 2 handis left that I need to develop a load for and do a little more work on. The one that is going to be more of a challenge is the 280 Remington, and I will be trying some of the FAQ suggestions in the days to come. If the weather gets really ferocious I will just start down the list according to components I have on hand and load like crazy. I am trying to work around to where I use as few powders and primers (by that I mean variety) as possible so as to be able to purchase larger amounts in the future, and also insure a broad spectrum of applications. I dont know how far they can be condensed. I know I will need Blue Dot, IMR4227 & 4198, RL7, Win 748, and IMR 4350. I can use any small/ large rifle primer, not magnum, brand does not mean much, but I prefer CCI when I can get them. I am not picky about brass either, because it rarely winds up as what it started as.Around here 30/06 and 30/30 brass is plentiful, as is 223. 9mm and 40 S&W seem cheap, but other pistol/revolver brass people seem to want to hang on to. 380 ammo has been like gold for a couple of years now. Fortunately, with some work, almost anything can ultimately be made out of '06 brass. I may even shed a rifle or two just to simplify things. At my age I am not as ambitious as I once was, and doubt that I will get to use a significant part of what I have amassed over the years, but it looks good for the grandkids. ;)

Have cut my list down as I develope favorites. The big favorite now is the 3 revolvers and one long gun in 45 Colt. My other dies and guns are gathering dust as I fine tune loads for these. Don't see it changing anytime soon.

I've accumulated a lot of .270 Winchester, an its getting time to do something with it. So I polished it last night. My polishing compound is treated, and I don't like jeweler's rouge in my barrels, so I washed the run with laquer thinner and wipoed them dry. They look real nice.

Once they have been fullength sized, I'll trimm them to length and go through my motions. Can't wait to take them to the range, my family is planning a deer hunt next fall and my wife & son will be using their own .270's.  8)
