I have an AO that I bought in the 70's. My first and favorite handgun. So far all the military parts I've tried have functioned perfectly. Surplus clips have a 100 reliability. Mine likes ball ammo and low powered reloads. The only glich I had was needing to file the extraction flat to provide sure extraction. I love mine and vow never to sell it.

I built a Milspec type gun on an Auto Ordinance frame with no problems whatsoever. It will accept surplus military parts with only the normal minor fitting. There was talk that the older ones were of less quality than the latest production, but my frame was an older one and wasn't a problem.  I think you'll be fine. Good luck.
