What rimfire are you jonesing for?

and why...


For the last few years, around tax refund time, I have starting jonesing for a new 22.
Already had a 10/22. Tax refunds have bought me a CZ452, a Ruger 22/45, and a Henry H001T.
No reason to believe I won't do it again, but at this point, I don't know what it might be, assuming I get a refund.


So what rimfire are you lusting after right now?

a rem 5 or equal from zastava in 22mag. cause the 22lr i have from there is such a quality rifle and i like the 22mag for wandering in the woods

  A Transferable AM180.  Because it's a 22lr machinegun with a 240 round magazine.  Last one I saw was about $9,000 (the economy has driven the prices down a bit.  9k being less than they were a few years back)
 
  I'm in no position to be spending that sort of money and honestly don't see much real use for a gun like that.  Still, since we're fantasizing about what 22 we want; the idea of a 240 round full auto mag dump just warms my heart.
 
  I won't be affording that in tis lifetime.  On a brighter note: I just scored a Hungarian PPk in 22 that I haven't taken to the range yet.  Maybe a New Year's day shoot.

I have been looking at CZ rifles.  Either a 453 varmint or a 455 which can be used as a switch barrel.  Then I think, wow if I am putting that much loot into a rimfire why not a CZ with Mannlicher stock in 7-08 or 7X57.  Now that would be nice.   Thinking gets me into more trouble.

I had that same thought when I was in CZ-buying mode. I had to order a LH model, so it was just about MSRP.
But I decided that later in my life, after all the hunting was done, I would probably still like to shoot, and with left-handed kids, it would always have value. It was a long term investment in fun. I guess all my rimfires are.

Last year I added a Bersa Thunder .22, this year I've pretty much decided on a Henry H001.
 
Both mostly just for FUN, but will probably do a little small game hunting with the Henry too.

Also, because I believe that as tough as Chuck Norris is, Chuck Connors could take him from 50 yards away.

  That's an excellent point.  It can be hard to justify or rationalize paying the big price tag for something that's "just a 22".  It somehow seems foolish to spend as much on a 22 as you would on a 'real' hunting rifle.  The truth is, most people will shoot their 22s more each year and for more years that they will shoot the safari gun.   If we really think about it, it would make more sense to spend  big on the 22.  As PowPow said, a long term investment in fun.  (Great line, by the way.)
 
  It's not hard to find a $500 or $1000 or higher price tag these days on a high powered rifle.  That's a price point where you see lot's of good hunting guns, but not the top end by a long stretch.  That same money in the land of 22lr is a whole different game.  If you had a big toy budget, it would get you some great stuff in 22 if you were willing to put it all into a really high quality piece.
 
  I just got back from shooting with friends for New Year's Day.  I did indeed bring my little Hungarian 22 PPK copy along and thought of you guys here on Graybeard and in this thread.  I hope some of you also started the year with a little range time.  The new toy hickuped a couple times.  Nothing out of the ordinary for a more or less new gun that isn't broken in and hasn't been shot enough to find the right ammo.  Good times.  A few more sessions, a few times being dirtied and cleaned and I'm sure it will be fine.  Taking my own advice and going big on a 22 purchase isn't happening this year, but I'm happy with what I got for now.

Swampman, what is the draw on the Favorite? Is its uniqueness, a memory, or something else?
My grandfather had a Win 62 pump that went to my dad, then got stolen, so one of those would be a sentimental choice for me.
Just wondering if it was something similar.

I shoot a lot of single shot centerfire rifles, and I think it would be nice to have a similar rimfire rifle to practice with.

I bought a Favorite a few years ago when they still had a walnut stock.  It reminds me of the gun that was kept in the milkhouse when I was a kid for pest control.  I like to take mine woods walking in the fall.  Makes me feel a little like a kid again.

I was up before day light.  It looks like you already have about all the .22's a guy could need.  If you just want something else try a browning lever.  I think I got my last .22 for a while.

I have hear a lot of complaints about quality control and poor customer service.  I know the last marlin I looked at was a 795 and it had a crooked rear sight.

I think I probably do. Started this post to see if something would tease me.
I know the Browning is a nice gun but it just didn't sing to me like the Henry H001T did.
 
I've got every type of action that I know of covered except pump and single shot.
I was looking at the Henry pump when I tried the H001T and like it better.
My centerfires are single shots, and I don't really get juiced by the idea of a single shot 22, even though the Stevens Favorite is interesting.
Thought about a T-bolt, but its really just a bolt action that you can shoot quicker and thats not what I need it for.
Maybe something retro or gently used; but not an auction, maybe an estate sale.

I just thought of one.  Ruger single six.  I have one 22lr/22mag.  It's a fun classic piece.  It's deadly accurate.  I used to shoot bottle tops at 25 steps at will.

A revolver is one I don't have and I definitely like Rugers.
It would be a plinker in my hands for sure, as I am not that good with my 22/45 with a red dot.
