290 soldiers return to Fort Knox by AP WHAS11.com Posted on January 1, 2012 at 12:37 PM FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) -- A New Year's Eve celebration at Fort Knox included the return of 290 soldiers from a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.
The soldiers were part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. A statement from the central Kentucky Army post says the soldiers were welcomed home during a ceremony Saturday evening attended by family, friends and other soldiers.
The statement says the soldiers were part of Task Force Duke and "helped bring security and stability" to areas of Afghanistan before their return.
We didn't see them, but on the way home from the hospitol tonight we saw a wall of blue lights, there were police, and maybe mps, escorting a caravan of buses, front, side and back, onto the base with more security waiting there. I'm assuming they were more of our troops. Made me proud to see that. POWDERMAN.
