  Do I have a problem, or is this normal
      When I place a round in my .243 ultralight, unless I am careful the round will pass right by the ejector and drop in the chamber.  If I close the action partially, where the ejector is touching the firing pin face, the ejector catches the rim OK.
  Usually, no matter which way the round goes in, it will be ejected.  Is the ejector supposed to act like that , or is something wrong ?  If It's not right, how do I fix it ?

This is normal on rimless cases. Its a bit unnerving thinking the extractor will be damaged or bind up upon closing. As long as the extractor slips over the rim upon closing. Does the extractor always do that? I mean slip around the cases rim and eject normally upon opening?
 
I know Pete has one that he has to be careful that the ejector catches the rim or he will have problems.

On my rimless handis, (223, 243, 25/06 280, 308 and 30/06) it works as you describe but has never been a problem.

My 30-06 does this so I think it is normal.  When the rimless cartride bypasses the ejector I just make sure I close the gun real firmly.  When I had my 45ACP handi built we modified the ejector so the gun would close properly when on loading a round passed the ejector.  Both of these guns eject just fine.

I too have the same situation with several rimless Handis.  Not a problem.  However,  the rimmed .445SM and .32-20 do it also,  and if you're not careful, slamming it closed will shear the extractor because the claw won't jump over the rim.  Don't ask how I know this :'( :'(

       Of course, closing the action with the rim PAST the ejector is an awkward feeling..but ity seems to work OK..so I guess I will learn to 'live with it'...

FWIW,
             Make sure there isn't any oil etc in your chamber it can cause extraction problems..
 
 My 243 and 223 Ultra lights work the same way..
